How to start building backlinks in your industry

Hello BWH,

I wanted to get some advice on where to start building backlinks for my website? What is the initial process? Is there a network or platform I can find people on? How do you typically reach out to people and will I be required to write articles for them to post etc?

I want to start building backlinks but I do not trust half the threads on here or the reviews and feel the best way to go about it is by doing the work myself.

Building backlinks is all about building value for people. If you start building social profiles around your topic and creating content that is valuable, the backlinks will begin to grow naturally and easily. The added benefit is that the social support you begin to build by creating material people want to share will significantly boost your amount of traffic and ranking for keywords. I suggest taking the time to find legitimate people who have a track record of providing these types of results. Success requires that your willing to do the work yourself however, don't overlook the power of leveraging other people and their talents.

If you have no previous experience, the best bet for you is to duplicate competitors links. Get Scrapebox, it will be your best investment ever. Locate competitors backlinks via it, and then set out manually replicating them, as far as possible. Also as @DigitalAdvanced suggested build social profiles, and work hard on them. Being genuine and regularly active on social media will help you generate initial traffic.

Also as @Panther28 suggested do guest posts. These links will last almost forever and you can control their quality easily.

To buy links you should first educate yourself on backlink types and quality. Otherwise you’d just fall for cheap link packages with fancy sales pages. If you know what kind of links you want it’s much easier to order them.

Usually people go with quality contextual links for tier1 (links pointing directly to moneysite), that is article submissions, web2.0, PBN, guest posting..

You can also do it on your own: find guest blogs, create web2.0, google article submission places, start pbn... tho starting your own pbn for just a single project can be a waste of resources and time i can say from my own experience. Depends on exact project and how profitable it is.

Outreach has been the way of getting valuable backlinks for the last years.

The reason Google added backlinks into their algorithm is that they were seen as 'votes' for your websites. If another website is telling its site visitors, "leave my site and go check this out" that is a rather powerful statement.

So, that's all about creating great content that other websites will want to link to.
And yes, you will be required to do a lot of homework, especially if you decided to embark on a backlink campaign yourself. Good luck in this!

Building backlinks are hard, very hard, most of the time if you ask for a backlink you are ignored or shut down like if you are nothin

then when they do link its a no follow because they dont want to pass the link juice to a newer site

Some people are lucky they can get organic backlinks to reputable sites because they have good content

Start clean, build a PBN. You can start by getting cheap but quality expired domains (you have to review them to avoid spammy ones). Then focus on more powerful domains as well as outreach (paid posts in authority sites).

I like blog outreach for many linking opportunities. Panther posted an excellent thread and I highly recommend it.

Links obtained by outreach will survive google updates and are about the same amount of work as a PBN or even much less.
