How do you guys maintain your rankings?

I notice that website positions do fluctuate a lot when you stop building backlinks for a period of time. I understand that most SEO guys manage up to 30 or more different affiliate websites with passive income just coming in every month.

But how do you guys continue to maintain all website positions after doing all the big backlinks to get to page 1?

You can run a ton of sites, though, if you're of the minority of people who are in fact excellent at SEO and project management. With rank tracking tools like SERPBook, you can easily keep an eye on your rankings and attend to pages that decline from the top position.

At a large scale, a lot of SEO isn't so much about spending your time to do SEO; it's about using your money to hire others to use their time to do SEO for you based off of specific plans/projects that you manage. You can buy $10,000 worth of SEO services about as fast as you can buy $100 worth of them.

I set my priorities, so I may focus on one site or a few sites for a few days depending on what is needed, then I take care of other sites, and keep on rotating from site(s) to site(s). By grouping things together for a few sites this saves time.

Outsourcing helps do more stuff obviously.

if your content is good and you are ranking #1 then at some point you will get real backlinks from people.

once the ranking is achieved, all you need to maintain it is add content regularly. It could be weekly, fortnightly or even monthly.

Should you always add new content to every kind of site? I have an Ecommerce with 80k words unique content, but I don't add new articles there. I thought about adding a blog on the site, but I don't know if that would be worth it...

ecommercesites ranking are pretty stable as compared to content based sites. For ecommerce content, you can use customer reviews for product pages to update content.

As per my experience, as long as you update new products, site will remain stable in google.

not true. Google ranks a page and the overall content quantity on the domain has no effect on that specific page.

It has. otherwise could easily dominate 1000 pages authority informational sites with a blog that has one post

see there you go - "authority information sites". Having a lot of articles doesn't guarantee ranking or "authority". Plenty of sites with thin content and about 10-20 pages still outrank bigger sites in the serps.

Funny thing is, If you update content on homepage or change title tag of already ranked page, the rankings will drop. You can test this on one of your website which is ranking on 1st position in google us

I am saying adding more content to the domain has no effect on that specific page's ranking unless you are interlinking it and sending juice to it
