Merge The Lounge And The Crypto Section

the crypto section is an upgraded lounge, lately its been a better source of fun than the lounge and we can't let this happen imho.

look at this, u got the covet trolls, the thread spammers, the backlink seekers, the newbie businessman, the coin pumpers...
its impossible to regulate becouse nobody can prove that scribscribscrib coin is actually my invention if you know what i mean, also there is so little knowledge being spread that the section's entire existence is absurd.

so either regulate it super hard fascism style or merge it with the lounge, open to discussion ofc.

Maybe we close the Crypto section on here, ask DD to open a Private Crypto Section which is by subscription only, so all the crypto billionaires who haven't paid to upgrade their accounts to Jr VIP can spend money to join the CryptoWorld Section instead.

I'll tell you what, I'll try to go through that section sometime between today and Friday and do the following:

1. Close off threads that have been getting trolled.
2. Issue infractions to members promoting their own coins as self-promotion isn't allowed here, anyway (think I can't prove it? I'll find a way).
3. Clean up threads that are beginning to get derailed.

Cryptocurrency is not something I have a great understanding of, although I'll make more of an effort to learn about it so that I can better moderate the forum.

I don't see anything wrong with the crypto section, I think BHW was actually late in opening a new section for it. There is a lack of true experts in that section but I guess the same goes for every other website, the filed of investment which is quite complex area to understand let alone virtual currencies and blockchains which is still pretty much brand new area.

the craze of bitcoin right now is a bubble but the electronic currency is not and there are some legit people and businesses getting behind all this and this is the future.

I think it's time senior guys had stopped trolling and hating because they couldn't jump in three years ago and start trying to dig a little deeper into crypto world. SEO world was once crazy and hyped up, wasn't it? and that's when the real money was to be made.

im not discrediting crypto as a whole just pointing out the fact that there is no legitimate content in that section, compare it to any other block on this forum and you'll see that it mostly resembles the lounge. its 'advantages' are minuscule in comparison to the 'disadvatnages' i just feel like that the crypto section decreases the value of the forum as a whole in the eyes of an outsider, there are many communities on reddit u can flock to if you want to discuss your fav moniker from the same blockchain technology since 2009 xDDDDD

and this shit about the money yo bro if yo boy was about the money i wouldnt be doing whitehat shit like content writing trust me, im focused on becoming a more eclectic human than i was yesterday and trolling is a way to vent for me after a long day of shovelling, i always keep it to the lounge and i think thats appropriate

the problem with creating content for crypto is that it is all necessarily partial, if i was invested into ethereum i wouldn't be writing negative shit about it, even if i was like a virtuous prude or something i would still subconsciously avoid talking too negatively about it as my experience with it would be limited becouse i would seek out content supporting my decision to invest into it in the first place, get what i mean?
i would be manipulating others inadvertently as i would be manipulating myself, its a cognitive bias by us pesky humans.

and the money to be made from crypto is dogshit, like if i go ahead and invest 100 dollars into bitcoin and it turns into 100k ok i might be 100k richer but my knowledge, exp and everything else stays the same.
I didn't improve in any way, i just won the lottery and its hard not to see it as gambling as you're basically betting on the limited resources (whitepapers) and promises the companies behind the cryptos feed you with, unless you have a throughout understanding of the code (and i believe that we both know that you don't), you're nothing but a gambler.

If there's btc bubble right now doesn't mean the whole crypto thing is bs. All this hype is a phase, the dust will settle soon.

Merging those two subforums will not happen and I'll try to explain why.

The lounge is a hang out section of BHW and really not a place where one goes to learn anything but more to blow off steam, chat about almost anything and just kick around.

The Crypto subforum is to learn about crypto currencies, share you thoughts about them, and discuss cryptos and crypto strategies.

That being said, the crypto forum does require a bit more moderation than the lounge (most of the Staff sees that I am sure) and has morphed a bit in several directions since it's genesis. It will morph more as time goes on and the expectations are that it will be a subforum that adds significant value to those that have an interest in that arena.

Yeah, there are some threads that may not be platinum standard, and there are some that are merely promotional but do not fall into warning/infraction status, and there are threads that are essentially, in my opinion, a waste of bandwidth.

But that is how we grow as a forum... we have content that falls short, content that is meh, and content that is solid on various topics and try to keep them all in their proper paddock. That does not happen overnight and takes time, on a forum platform, to get to a place that is satisfactory and offers a reasonable amount of value.

The crypto section will eventually evolve into something that offers more than just wild speculation and having patience is the key to allowing that to happen.
