I had switched to a business account earlier this year in march and saw my engagement plummet drastically!
SO I switched back to personal and it took me months to recover it. Posting only high quality original content, engaging with my followers, posting daily... I finally got back to my old stats.
I had also gotten rid of 5000 ghost followers so thought that was affecting my engagement.

ANYWAY: switched to a business account yesterday and posted a pic later in the day.
My post hasn't even reached 200 likes in 10 hours... my previous post before was sitting at over 1000.
This is not a coincidence, my pic I posted was better than the one that got 1000 likes... IG are taking the piss.
If you haven't switched don't do it.

Wow....How did you get rid of the 5000 ghost followers?

I have the app, but how can I identify the ghosts?

You can let it run for another 2-3 days to see effect.

Business profile is just a flag that IG uses to let them know: this user has some money to spend! Let's decrease his organic reach to get him to buy ads!

While it makes sense in their business model to do something like that, I do believe they don't necessarily push you down. I do however think that Instagram's algo treats business profiles differently. Much like Facebook who is experimenting with 2 feed: one personal (for family & friends) and one business (for companies).

Just keep networking on IG, create relations, dm groups, get powerlikes ,...

im doing fine with IG business account. followers 15.1k. impression per post up to 12k. likes 1.5k. the engagement is great though. comments up to 50.
try running an ig story with poll and check what is the reach and how much followers engage with it. im doing story occasionally and received great returns.
this is a clean account, no fake followers, and grown manually.

ABsolutely not true. All conjecture and no real statistical data to back up. For all the 10 people that say business profile throttled their reach, there will be 10 other people who say the opposite. Guess what, the ones who see the positives don't have time to go complaining online as they see the benefits.

That's exactly why i said that i don't believe they push you down the feeds ;-) but i don't exclude the idea that they are following FB in changing algo's all the time. But the impact is much wider than just business accounts.

I do however think that people owning business accounts treat their account differently. Often times the decrease in reach is (imho) due to a change in posting, networking, type of content they use,..

What are the actual benefits of switching to business?

How much you spent to switched to a business account?

Switching to business is free. You do get Insights and can see stats, etc on your posts. That is the only reason to change. If you don't need or want insights, don't switch.

It's like being a male and wanting to be a woman. You'd think and maybe want to do a transgender change. But, if you're a male and don't want to be a woman, no reason to go transgender. Same with personal or business.

Wow, never thought of that...

Or maybe those who argue against switching have something to hide. The biggest proponents seem to be many large accounts who don’t want to reveal their stats? They dont want advertisers to see their audience is made up 13 year old in the Middle East. Or worse yet, they only have 5% reach on their 100k account.

Ive said this a million times over, if I am working with a female fashion influencers, I want to know if it is made up of 45 year men and 13 year old boys who make up 95% of their audience versus someone who can clearly show me 75% of their audience are females that 18-25 year olds living out of coastal cities - LA/New York and in major 1st world countries. I know who I pick.

I know that if you switch to business account, Instagram lowers your engagement and forces you to pay for ads.

I'm switching my accs to business once they reach 100k followers.
I didn't really see a big difference in engagement, I just have the feeling that posts are not getting viral as often as before.

wow intersting! Will follow. You'd think a business account would mean benefits but it looks like it's doing the opposite?
