I was on my monthly https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/product/sausage-biscuit.html run (once a month I grab 20 sausage biscuits from McD's and pass 'em out to homeless people in my area) today. This guy always is chillin' on the corner by the Starbucks in a pretty upscale area near downtown.
The first time I saw him was the first time I did the Sausage Biscuit run (back in July) and he told me he was out of detox and was seven months clean from heroin. I thought that was cool of him, and gave him two biscuits, but he still seemed like he was down on his luck.
Every month he'd be there. Every month it was eight months, nine months, etc.
This morning should have been one year, so I had a twenty dollar bill wrapped in the biscuit wrapper.
He wasn't there. I was kinda bummed out.
It was my last stop of the day, so I placed a mobile order on my phone, parked at the Starbucks, waited a couple minutes in the car, and went in to pick the order up.
He was behind the counter. Starbucks gave him a job. Dude gave me my mobile order and a smile. I gave him the biscuit with the twenty and wished him a happy one year. He thanked me and we went on our separate ways.
Happy Saturday.
EDIT: I just realized how advertise-y this sounds. I am not affiliated in any way with Starbucks™
