I still don't get how something like this could have grown so big from being nothing but some data that came out of nowhere, still stunning to me and shows to me that humans will give value to anything if it's just hyped enough.

Probably because people wanted to use decentralised currency and believed others will join them too and then it started growing little by little until media coverage and fomo set in to pump it to where it is now.

The conspiracy theorist in me has so many alarms going off when it comes to bitcoin.
I like the idea in theory, but the fact people are saying this would be a great currency for the world scares the shit out of me.

People mocked wright brothers for trying making a plane because it was inconceivable at that time that humans can travel in air.
Its ok to be afraid. Technology behind btc is solid and its here to stay.

It might be decentraliserend but still it's nothing but some data, take away the power supply, internet you got nothing while for example gold and silver will always be worth something.
It totally annoys me the MSM got involved, suddenly I see people in my country who had dick knowledge of the internet sell their house and invest it all in bitcoin, suddenly the coin is hip and I fucking hate hipsters! For that reason I hope while it probably won't that BTC will crash so hard!
BTC can't replace it because it has compared to some other coins a small CAP, at one point you can't mine them anymore.
Ripple is the real underrated one and even though it will never reach the value of BTC I see a longer future for Ripple than BTC.

I'm not mocking bitcoin, or crypto in general, or the technology behind it. I think it's cool and ingenious. I'm saying in the grand scheme of things we need to be extremely careful about how crypto is treated going forward. As an alternative currency I'm all for it.. as some kind of main global currency that's a disaster waiting to happen IMO.
Banking families could have crushed crypto if they wanted to. Why didn't they? Why haven't the ruling class lobbied politicians to destroy it? Why is the establishment not attacking Bitcoin full-force? Often the the media establishment is hyping it. That is what concerns me.. the fact that it's going mainstream and being accepted by organizations I don't trust.
