I was thinking of building something to check links pointing to my various sites. Basically just so I know when I may need to do some more link building campaigns.

I see there are some other tools online that people charge for to monitor backlinks. Anyone have thoughts on if there is a need for another online tool like this? Maybe a cheeper one or something?

do you have +6 petabytes of storage on servers to host the data and keep it updated?

I'm not talking about spidering the web like ahrefs or whatever. Just checking to make sure a link that exists today, still exists a week or month from now. Planning on just using AWS and other cloud providers so yes I could grow the storage with the service.

well that would be easy, just keep track of the urls. make a db with your links and schedule them to be re-checked.
that wouldn't need huge storage and you could do it in a desktop application.

Easy enough, yes. I want my solution to b a bit more automated and web based. Less for me to think about. :)

i would like to suggest Semrush tool for keyword research, analytics, backlinks checker.

For backlinks check you may use
ahref
moz
scanbacklinks

Did you guys read the OP, at all?

He's talking about making a sure a link still exists, both in terms of it being indexed & existing on a page.

I'd be interested in such a service, any one know anything? IIRC There is something but I forgot what it's called

If you have scrapebox, you could use it to alive check your links. Or if you have GSA SER, you can upload your links to a project and keep verifying them regularly to see which ones still exist. Both are manual but if you can code something web based, then it would definitely be helpful.

Thanks for helping put the thread back on the rails.

Since posting the thread. I've continued to work on some code for this in my spare time. I'm still interested in what others think, but seems a few people might find value in it at least.
