Have you guys seen WAX token? It's by OPSkins, the biggest escrow service/platform for buying and selling virtual in-game items. I contributed 1 ETH to their pre-ICO simply because I've been using their site for 3 years and have sold for a total of $10000+ on their platform already as it is. Out of all the ICO's related to virtual in-game item marketplaces, this is the only one with previous organic growth.
I know that a lot of people on here won't see the potential in this because there's seemingly no good reason for why they're not just using another crypto as a currency on their site. I entirely agree with those of you who think this way. However, fact of the matter is that they don't give a fuck and they're big enough to do what they want.
I don't necessarily advocate for minors buying and selling on this escrow service but, fact of the matter is that they want to and this token would make it possible. How do I know this? Search /r/OPSkins for whitelisting related issues and you will see. There are multiple Reddit communities for trading in-game items and most of them use a specific in-game item as their current main form of currency; this could replace those as most of these Reddit traders already use OPSkins for "cashing out" as it is. Case in point, /r/GlobalOffensiveTrade use CS:GO case keys as their form of currency. The reason cryptos aren't already used as a common exchange currency in these trading subreddits is because the majority of traders have yet to adopt cryptocurrency; this could easily change that because of the trust people in these communities already have for OPSkins. I don't see case keys being eradicated as a currency but, if WAX tokens are seamlessly integrated into the platform, I can definitely see WAX complementing case keys as another commonly accepted currency. The problem with case keys is that there's no way to directly turn them into cash without selling them on an escrow service which would require you to verify your identity to prove you are who you say you are and that you are over 18 years old. Because of this, a lot of underage gamers sell their items for PayPal and, as you may have already guessed, this leads to a lot of people getting scammed off their items. Read through the whitepaper if you want to know how WAX is planning to fix this.
I've made shitty investments in the past and I will make shitty investments in the future (i.e. take this post with a grain of salt and do your own research). Most likely, only gamers will see the potential in this. Anyway, I rest my case
cheers.
