A lot of people seem pissed at Coinbase for a last minute late-night email regarding fork. Seems to be quite a bit of confusion on what's happening.

The writer from the first article is misinformed. The fork did not actually happen due to a bug in the code:

They may still be able to fix the code and proceed with it, but even if they do its completely meaningless. The fork has no support to speak of.

As for the statement from Coinbase, I do not see what there is to be upset about. Obviously if the new fork gains any traction people will want to have access to their new tokens so they can trade them however they like. Every exchange does this. Not giving people access to their new tokens from the fork would essentially be stealing money.

Thanks for the update.

On Coinbase, people seemed upset the alert emails were sent out just five hours before things were supposed to happen, and people were asleep so they didn't see it until after they woke up. Therefore, they could not cancel orders and be prepared. And then Coinbase shut down their system for a bit, in the early morning hours.

And now, no blog updates from Coinbase, so the pitchfork crowd is at the gate wanting to know what went down.

Yes, but coinbase people seem pissed at lack of advanced notice, not that coinbase was down. I just found it odd coinbase went offline for a bit, and yet no fork happened...apparently? It's all very confusing with guys claiming that Bitcoin is stuck at a particular block.

I agree Coinbase could have released that statement earlier, but with the little support Segwit2x has after the official cancellation announcement, no one was really certain the fork would still go through. As for them going down, they obviously did not know that the fork would get stuck due to shoddy code. If there is anyone to be upset with, its Jeff Garzik's (the main coder for the hardfork) poor coding abilities.
