Extreme negative growth on twitter randomly

I have been using followliker for about a year now and in the statistics section of some accounts I can see a large negative number in the growth of followers for that day (meaning I lost all those followers for that account that day).

This one is a real doozie! 2,104 decrease in followers in one day!!!

What the heck is going on? It only happens randomly, as you can see by the screenshots. I did have a guess about a month ago that Twitter just locked lots of accounts on the day there was a negative change in followers amount, but on each of these (these are all different twitter accounts) the extreme loss happened on a different day.

Is Twitter forcing mass amounts of people to unfollow certain accounts on certain days? WTH?

Does anyone have thoughts about this? Is this happening to anyone else?

you can easily view what is going on via i.e. justunfollow.com
there is a link "recentUnfollowers" with the number of unfollowers.
1) scroll down until "yesterday"
2) F3 and search for "0Following"
your browser will display the number "locked accounts" but there are too locked accounts with some friends, who are not included in the displayed number

OK, I tried that for the account that lost 515 followers today. It says:
"Boo! There's nothing to do.
No recent unfollowers. Let's check back later."

Do I have to wait? Is it because I just signed up to crowdfire with that account?

Will it only show me stats from now on? I don't want the crowdfire app on all my accounts...

it looks like the accounts that you lost must of been bots or spam accounts I'm assuming could be wrong just a quick guess also what are your settings for following on follow liker have you had any problems getting locked?

Hi youngpyro.

My settings are different for different accounts depending on how many followers they have, and also depending on how often they get locked. The more often an account gets locked, the more conservative the settings. Right now I have a few accounts where I am only following 5-10 per day because the account gets locked so often.

I did notice something. When the followers were lost it was when the account was locked. You can see the bottom one that lost over 2,000 followers was locked from Aug 14 - Sept 12. So I think that's why it lost lots of followers. These are all clients' accounts, and they don't always get back to me when their account gets locked, and some of them require that their phone number be attached to their twitter account, so I can't unlock it for them, ugh!

It seems they are losing followers when they are locked. However, the one that lost 515 followers on Oct 28, was only locked for less than a day, so that is a lot of followers to be lost in one day...

When account is locked twitter will show ZERO following as if you unfollowed everyone. So followers will start to unfollow. The longer acc is locked the more unfollowers. The bigger acc is the more unfollowers also.

I can agree that ratio of bots to humans is getting higher, but there are still tons of real people on twitter and instagram. The percentage of bots is just higher. It doesn't mean the number of real people has gone down much.

There are so many variables. It could be your tweets, how often you're tweeting, what you're tweeting about, your bio, your avatar, if you're not following your followers back they may unfollow you, etc. So many reasons why people would unfollow.

Makes sense. Too many things can be a cause. I noticed I gain some and I loose some but as long as gains are higher I remain optimistic.

Very true. There are certain niches that are just a hotbed for bots. Same goes for IG as well. The bots are just setup to crawl accounts and keywords, so whenever you tweet a trigger keyword or follow a certain type of account, the bots will come.

That being said, there are still real people engaging with each other. But i can say that with all the spam that's going on, real people are more wary of 'new' followers who engage with them.
