I recently stumbled upon a case study here on how social signals have an impact on search engine rankings and decided to give it a shot.

Background: I'm the CTO of a 4 year old e-commerce company with a decent amount of backlinks and search engine traffic.

The experiment was done for two keywords.

Keyword 1
Before the experiment, the keyword was sitting on the 6th position since 2 months. Blasted 600 facebook likes, 25 google +1s, 25 tumblr reshares, 50 pinterest pins, 50 linkedin shares and 500 twitter retweets.
Result: Moved from 6th rank to 4th rank in 48 hours.

Keyword 2
The keyword was sitting at 8th position since 1 month before the experiment. Blasted 1300 facebook likes to the link.
Result: Moved from 8th rank to 4th rank in 24 hours.

This is getting me all excited and I'll be happy to update this thread with how it goes.

All in all, social signals do seem to have a massive impact on SEO.

what smm provider have you used?

I’d like to see a snapshot of your keyword over the past 60 days. I have plenty of keywords that dance a few places on a daily routine.

I don't know if I'm allowed to mention it. I've previously received 3 warnings for just mentioning which service I use, without even owning the services.

My team has manually been reporting the ranking in an excel file. Is there a service where I can check exact historical data?

Stop the boosting and see if the serp rise is permanent.
Yes, I plan on not touching any parameters for atleast 2 weeks to see how the results hold up. In the meanwhile, I'll play with some more keywords.

This is interesting, how do you get those social signals? is it all organic?
Bought them off the internet. Had only 1 organic share prior to buying.

I also notice that if my link gets retweeted multiple times, or if the person that retweets has a good profile, meaning many followers and has already many posts on the Twitter account, such retweets are very powerful indeed.
I also see similar trends on Facebook as well - if a person has many followers and likes or shares your link, that 1 particular like/share is very powerful in moving SERP as well.

All the shares and retweets I received were from fake accounts. Curious to know what powerful users could do. I'll keep you posted on how the rankings hold up.

Well according to John Mueller. Facebook posts are just like any other website. If authority facebook/twitter accounts share your post, it treats it as an authority signal and google will rank it.

Eg Trump's twitter account has DA/TF 100 rating. Anything that gets posted there is instantly indexed and ranked very high, even if it is "garbage" lol.

I have found that Bing gives more authority to social signals. I made a post on facebook, that has 5000 organic views, 100 posts, 150 likes and about 30 shares. On Bing the long tail keyword ranks 1, on google its 8.

Thanks for sharing this. After reading this, I turned to bing to check the ranking for the keywords I did the experiment on. Both of them are on the 2nd rank.

Bing is a good place to harness the power of social signals, based on this.

The stats I posted earlier are incorrect. It was 720 likes, 4700 organic views, 11000 paid views, 150 comments, 60 shares, 500 clicks.

This was literally my first post on facebook which gained any traction so an account with no authority and it got to 1st Bing, 6th Google with 3 word keyword. Zero monthly searches though.

On Bing I ranked higher than the official licensed product but not on Google.

Did you buy the services from anyone here or someone else?

While it is good to see results after 48 hrs, See what will happen if you stop the social signals. For me, I'd rather hav slow and consistent sharing instead of one blast. Also check the bounce rate of such traffic.

That's quite a ton of signals for Google to pick up

Bought them outside of the forum. I found a panel by doing a quick google search.

I'll keep the keywords untouched for two weeks to see how the results hold up.

Moving 2 positions on the first page is better than going from page 6 to page 4.
