I was thinking of doing this for another niche to what we discussed btw. So basically you think this model is good but gives too much headache? Perhaps I underestimated the passivity of it. I would have thought as long as ranking was maintained and the fact that the site belonged to me would take some of the headache out. Or so I read.

How do you sell the leads exactly? And are we talking PPCall or form submission/transferring the data via API?

0. do some niche and area research (avoid stuff like plumbers in london and lawyers in new york, plastic surgeons in LA, lol)
1. build a local site (best plumbers in city, state, choose a few cities in the state that you wanna work in )
2. rank the site, it wont be hard, use youtube and build some backlinks, consider using directories
3. make sure you have a phone number (find local biz owner to takecare of the leads or use aff networks) and a submission form for email leads (youll be surprised)
4. consider turning on adwords

Great help, glad you joined the discussion and we also got to brush up on our Geography. I forgot to ask though, how should the site be made? I can think of two options:
1) I sort of brand the site and then just switch the contact details.
2) I keep the site generic, have generic articles on the site that just help me rank and then have the homepage advertise the client. So people will know I'm not a brand, but I'm advertising the client.
Sorry wasn't sure what you meant by best plumbers exactly.

Well, I'm 60 so my drive to be pushing hard is diminished a bit.
You'll be communicating on a regular basis, explaining why this and why that, and may even have a client that wants to know what you are doing to maintain rankings.
For me that is a bit much and that is why I would not go in that direction.
On the other hand, if you have the energy and drive for that, go hard, as that is a decent business model for a lot of industries.

Sorry, I'm new to SEO so apologies if I'm not following. Think I am though. Let's say city 2, 3 and 4 were all next to each other I would put the contact details of the client on all those pages, right? Makes sense if so, but what about the homepage? I'm unsure about how I portray the site - is it meant to appear as branded 'satellite company'? Seems like it'd be quite a lot of work to try and appear like a credible company with a whole 'about us' etc. I'm assuming you don't do that but can't figure out the alternative.

Well, I'm slightly younger so can take a few more years of shit (if I'm getting paid for it)! Would probably try and set expectations in the beginning too, and try and not work with any (neurotic) women

He allows the customer to test a few leads first, and then after seeing quality customer pays the $1000 upfront (and you credit back on any shortfall you didn't deliver).

Just to add a little value in this discussion, if you do try many other locations, i advise you create google my buisness and bing places accounts for each new location if you truely wanta capture leads. U will have to buy ups boxes to verify each location but google maps atleast for my clients, gets 8 times as many calls as their website does for the same top ranking. Idk how to get around the customer seeing a not real location but iv seen other mention this method before.

There is a site that caters to nothing but Plumbers and HVAC contractors (heating and cooling). They are out of Florida called PlumberSeo.
They have plenty of free materials catered to the contractors but may be of benefit to flesh out your site idea for local.
