Why would you or why would you not hire a virtual assistant?

Hi, fellow BHW members.

I'm writing an article about the reasons why internet marketers or online entrepreneurs choose to hire a virtual assistant. I understand there are tons of articles online written about this topic but I'd like the information to come from the voice of BHW members.

May I ask why would you or why would you not hire a virtual assistant?
If you choose to hire a virtual assistant, do you prefer a male or a female VA?
Do you want a local VA or it doesn't matter if the VA lives overseas?

I'm always willing to hire VA for get support my works.

1. First i give instrution for VA what i need to get from her, Ex: link building task take time so If I allocate my time for them it will hard to manage my time for other main task therefore i always try to outsouce my time consuming task for VA

2, Female because its easy to manage normally if get perfect one.

3, Outsouce because i dont want to publish my thing for person in my own country.

1. VA is a lifetime safer. If I don't hired one or some, I probably wouldn't have time to write this post or surfing on bhw. I used VA mainly to help me building backlinks.

2. Doesn't matter, as long as they do their job accordingly.

3. Local is cheaper than overseas to me. But that depends on where you live as well.

Based on my initial research, most people prefer female VAs, indeed. Could it be because they are more receptive to feedback or more patient in doing a boring task?

Indeed, you can focus on more important tasks when you delegate your less important tasks to a VA.

3. Local is cheaper than overseas to me. But that depends on where you live as well.

I agree. The people I've interviewed from the US prefer to outsource their admin tasks to VAs outside the US. Some hire VAs from India or the Philippines.

People really have various preferences. Personally, I prefer a female VA.

You know, I've never actually bothered hiring a VA. The closest I've ever come to it was this time when I was going to hire a girl who lived near my city to help me complete the Photoshop-aspect of my business faster. I remember I was going to pay her $15 an hour and, in addition to doing the job, she was also going to help me with my Russian. However, she was more interested in me training her to do online marketing (there were some other red flags as well) and I just can't be going around creating my own competitors, so I never hired her.

1. I outsource some tasks to get rid of the boring/repetitive aspects of my business: sending invoices, checking payments, reminding clients to pay, answering basic client queries... Leaves me more time to focus on the parts that are vital to my business' growth.
For the core of my activity though, I would prefer to work with someone I can supervise directly, because trust and perfect understanding are absolutely crucial here.

Hi, @Zwielicht. I feel you. This is one of my concerns sometimes, too. To protect my business, I make them sign a non-disclosure and a non-competition agreement. I only hire locals.

Thanks for your inputs, @blackh4t and @PlofAtayuga. I can see that there's no fixed set of to-dos for a VA.

1. costs,( if you hire a van from 3rd country is quite cheap
2. they do extremely boring work for you ( i can`t stand repetitive work )
3.you can make a nice profit if they do the right job

1. Whether or not to hire help comes down to one question. Can you make more money than you are paying the VA in the time you have saved? If a VA costs you $500 then you need to be able to make more than that with the extra free time you have or you are losing money and that obviously is not good.

2. I could care less either way.

3. Depends on the jobs they are going to do plus refer to #1. In most cases a local assistant is going to cost more. Will the extra income from the additional hours I have to work be enough? Training is also an issue, some things are harder to train if you are not there in person.
