And here you're projecting. How do *you* know about it - and I mean, what is your methodology? Hopefully, as a student you've learned that assessment is a process that needs to be based on a robust set of criteria that are meticulously applied in a consistent and intellectually honest way, in order to identify the base evidence, use them to create hypothesis and test them.
So, fighter X is dumb. From what I see in your post, your whole train of thought is "cause they don't manage their daily business themselves, other that fighting and acting". I call that criterion as miserably lacking and totally out of base with reality. Here's why.

Anything less would have been really dumb. You don't get to become world class in anything if you have time to manage all the trivial things you can outsource. The alpha and omega in business is to outsource as much as possible, leaving you in your best shape for you core competencies. Best people in the world have at most 5 core competencies. Anything else they put their time on is a colossal waste (or if you like the fancier term, carries a huge opportunity cost).
(a good example is a recent instagram post by Floyd Mayweather in which he promoted a crypto ICO, do you think that he even knows what that is? His manager just told him to promote that shit for some money and he did, so he's just a puppet BUSINESS WISE)...
See why you don't get business? Outsourcing is hard as hell because you need to place trust, devalue your ego and let go. Successful people choose wisely and trust, for the simple reason that the alternative is mediocre. Yes, people can scam you. You can be a control freak, spend your time learning and checking and never get scammed. You won't be rich as fuck. They chose rich instead of their ego because they put down their minds and arrived at the logical conclusion. I know people who can't stand at the thought of delegating for fear of getting tricked. They are not rich - competent yes but extremely limited by the common denominator: time.
Smart people buy time. Smart business people buy as much time as possible, all the time.
Bill Gates on the other hand started up his own business, met with investors himself, took all responsiblity to achieve his own goal like a real businessman.
One of his core competencies. If Bill Gates wants to kick someone's ass, he won't be hitting the gym. He'll outsource - even if the thought of buffing up to have the pleasure of bitch-slapping someone himself was bringing a smile to his face. Anything else would have been amazing waste - and clearly neither his time, nor his mind is for waste.
So being good at sports makes you smart, really?
Makes you successful, which is all that matters, ever. Smart is a meaningless buzzword for circlejerking unless it is being materialized in success. You (not literally you) could read a bazillion sports books and know of all the technicalities, history and what not. If that's not making you rich or niche famous it's a waste, it's even more contemptuous than being on the low end of the spectrum - because a person who doesn't have the capabilities can't be blamed for not using them to the fullest.
The businessman who made all this shit happen was DANA WHITE, if he didn't exist these 2 would never have fought. Dana White got millions from this and he's chilling whereas Conor ended up looking like a fool and Mayweather ended up looking pathetic for agreeing to this stupid shit (the boxing world didn't appreciate this match)
Everybody won here. Dana, Conor and Mw got millions - they couldn't care less about what people think today since they know that opinion is fickle and only worth what you can cash out of it. The fans got their entertainment, during the match and afterwards in their chats. The haters got their chance to hate. Everybody wins. Beautiful.
