Cutting down on bandwidth by hosting on imgur

Hey guys,
Ok turns out this is against imgur's tos so if you want to do this do it with caution. Credits to @riz_a for pointing this out

Right now I am hosting my images on Imgur and embedding them on my site to prevent too much bandwidth usage.

This method seems perfect in my opinion since I've been using it for the past few weeks and it works.



Are there any problems with this method in your opinion people of bhw?

Also, I steal a lot of my images, would this method stop copyright claims since I'm not hosting the images on my site but instead just embedding them?



*If this is a stupid method or isn't a method at all and could cause harm just let me know and I'll change the title or just remove it all together.

I would not do that as I rely in part on Image SEO.

You are losing the opportunity to name the image a KW, add a title, put in alt text, add in a description and have another url on your site with the actual image.

If it is the case for videos it probably is the case for images as well.

I don't rely on seo that much. I rely more on social media and a good user experience so visitors return which is why I want to use hq images and it seems this is the only way to do that without paying $$$ for image rights, getting copyright infringments, and spending a ton of bandwidth.

What you are describing is essentially a CDN. Sure, doing this will improve site performance and load times but if Imgur has some sort of performance issue or outage then your site will be affected. You will lose the ability to add your own alt descriptions to the images for SEO purposes. It's also against imgurs TOS.

Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.

Also, if you have any HTTPS on your site, make sure that any images (or JS or CSS or anything else) that you reference from your page is also HTTPS, otherwise your users will get that annoying "this page contains insecure content" error.

It's really up to you. If you are using WordPress you could look into CloudFlare or some other CDN.

In that case I would probably do the same.

As to copyright infringements you can always use images in google that are labeled for reuse if you are concerned about that.
