Bigger account stealing my content

Hello, I recently stumbled upon a big account (100k followers) that stole an image from my instagram (1k followers). I am 95% certain it is stolen, as what I do entails various editing, so there is no way that someone else could have done it exactly the way I did, plus it was posted few days after mine. I have contacted him privately and asked for credit and a shoutout, threatening to report him if he does not comply.

I am wondering if anyone else has dealt with this issue before, and what are the best ways of handling it. Thanks.

It happens a lot, and there is nothing you could do about it because you post it on instagram so it is open for use for everybody. So it wont help threating to report him because instagram will do nothing about it

Thanks for your replies guys. I actually should put a discrete watermark, haven't until this point as I did not want to detract from the piece, and didn't know my content was good enough to be stolen =]

Correct OP. If it is NOT your original work, there is nothing you can do about it other than whine. If it is your original work (video/photo, everything), not just the "editing", than just report him to Instagram.

Report him to IG and let us know what happened.

If it is your original photo, not just the editing, then you should be able to get Instagram to take it down from the other site, and maybe even have the other account banned from Instagram.

Just keep reporting to Instagram every other day. Sometimes they are slow, but don't just report it once and wait 1-2 weeks for a reply from Instagram. If you don't hear back from Instagram within 48 hours, report it again.

Nothing you can do. Popular "funny" pages steal ideas all the time and even add their own watermark.

Yes I of course give credit to the original creators. My niche is UI design, so I find pretty UI's, screenshot and edit for Instagram-optimized display. This content strategy is used by all the top accounts in my niche. I have a different approach to finding the content, and requires me editing them a certain way which is unique to my blog. Anyway, i'm not too concerned about it, but I would have liked to see if there was anything I can do to perhaps benefit me in the long-term (penalizing competition / getting him to credit my acc).

Put watermarks on your post... now if this is a PERSONAL photo or video you created, you can report pages that post this material without crediting you for it

So, you are taking other's people content, editing it, posting to IG and now you are crying because someone else took 'your' content?
When you start taking pictures on your own and uploading them to the Instagram then contact them to ban that other user.

For now, just ask that person to give you a shout out/credit.

Or, close this thread and go do something more productive.

I am not taking anyone's content. If you care, just take a look at any blogs in the niche. You will find that the top feeds are built off the works of other designers, who are grateful to be featured. Just like you take a picture of a place, you take a picture of a website/app/program and give proper credit. But anyway, who's crying? Simply asking the experts who have dealt with this for some more insight.

If you want a simple way to avoid this, just put a simple text watermark on your images. It will take you a good 10-15 seconds and prevent you from having to reach out and ask for credit in the future. With the Instagram game like it is today, it's either you watermark your content or you lose the race - it's pretty simple. A lot of 1M+ follower accounts are thriving on the content of others, so just slap that watermark on there and if they continue to repost, maybe you'll get a few followers from their effort! wrong. I had one of the pictures on an experimental account removed because I reposted @auditography's picture without permission. Instagram can and MIGHT enforce copyright infringements. Last known instance was over 4 months ago. Pretty sure, it only gets more and more strict now.

Last time i checked you can use whatever photo is posted on there on a public account. And if i am correct there is not copyright on every picture. So maybe you posted a picture of a brand but 95% of the pictures can be posted without any problems in my experience

no, just reposted his picture of an Audi RS7 without giving him any credit. He DOES, however, use a tiny watermark but with instagram's shrinking technique you can barely even see it.
