Vinnik is suspected to be one of the co-founders or at least one of the key figures of BTC-e and got arrested today in Greece.

He is also the main suspect in the Mt-Gox investigation for laundering the money that were stolen from mtgox wallet.

http://blog.wizsec.jp/2017/07/breaking-open-mtgox-1.html

In the same time BTCE is still down, and they wrote that their issues will be resolved in 5-10 days.

What do you think, is this a coincidence ?

I had my fair share of coins there as well so i hope we wont be seeing another mtgox all over again.

5-10 days to restore the service...
Either they have half programmer, or the reasons are not technical.

The MtGox money is being tracked all over the globe.

I don`t understand this fucktards if u are able to wash 4 billions move to panama buy a town hire a small army to protect u and do ur thing from there. Don`t wonder around in fucking Greece.

Well, now it official, BTC-E is not coming back.

A grand jury in the Northern District of California has indicted a Russian national and an organization he allegedly operated, BTC-e, for operating an unlicensed money service business, money laundering, and related crimes.

Was thinking the same thing. Europe would probably be one of the last places on my mind to live if I'd taken a significant amount of money like this

Holy shit, he tried to steal $4 billion dollars. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'd like to shake that man's hand!

He didn't try to steal 4B$, quoting the US Govt statement:
The investigation has revealed that BTC-e received more than $4 billion worth of bitcoin over the course of its operation

He stole from Mt Gox to get his initial capital - that is international crime.
Then he founded BTC-E as a legitimate business (in my eyes), which is now claimed to be illegal by US govt largely because it was anonymous.
Anonymity is not a crime in my eyes, especially given that he operated outside US jurisdiction.

If he laundered money via BTC-E thats once again international crime. However, I fail to see why he would need to launder money with such a successful business. So that part doesnt make sense.
Its possible that US citizens laundered money via BTC-E, but then the straight logic says that US Govt should concentrate on finding those US citizens instead trying to shut BTC-E down.

Well i guess that was it. RIP anyone who had funds there.

To make things even worse there is a speculation that a big chunk of btc`s are transferred straight from the btc-e cold wallet on the day of the website going down.
