Yoast Plugin SEO no need keywords?

Hello guys,
Recently we move our website from HTML to wordpress..
So for SEO we bought Yoast Premium plugin..
And we hire a freelancer from Freelancer _com
And I already paid the full money to him on Freelancer..

He ask me keywords and other things and we provided. But later he said that SEO work is done so I check the pages..

I saw he/she just edit the title and put 1/2 keywords on the title but not in the keyword section of that page's yoast keywords section..

When I ask him about other keywords and other things he said that now google change the rule and use too much keywords no longer needed.
Only title will increase the rank on google..

He said SEO is done and now I need to create backlings by posting and regular update from social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc.

And He said if we use too 4/5 keywords then it may down the rank.

So guys what do you thing about this issue?

Is he right? or He just con me?

Google and bing stopped using keyword meta tag years ago.

He's right. A quick google would have told you that

Did you ask him to make pages for each individual keyword? Or you wanted him to do multiple keywords per page?

There are other onpage factors besides just the title tag that affect rank. He is right that the title tag is one of the main factors. Main three are:

• URL (website.com/category/my-keyword-here.html
• <title>Title Tag</title>
• Main Headers (generally H1, H2, etc.)

While that is true, the actual other content on the page definitely does impact SERP rankings.

Ideally, you should constantly review old pages, try changing the content around, A/B test to get the best results, and so on. But of course that takes time and may be outside of the scope of his contract with you.

For anything besides the easiest keywords, he's right that you also need off-page optimization (like backlinking, etc). You should of course keep in mind that without good onpage SEO, offpage SEO can be a waste of time. (Also, without good keyword research, onpage SEO is a waste of time).

He's right that Google has been getting increasingly better at using Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) to determine the meaning of content.

He is also right that keyword stuffing is a thing. Too many keywords can hurt a page's rankings. Although that is a generalization. You can definitely optimize a page for more than one keyword, though. Usually something like:

• Buy Blue Widgets (in title and URL)
  • how to buy blue widgets (used in the text of the page)
  • purchase blue widgets (used in the text of the page)
  • buy dark blue widgets (used in the text of the page)
  • buy a blue widget online (used in the text of the page)

With a more general keyword / main keyword in the title and URL and then some variations/longtails in the body. If they fit naturally and logically, you can definitely optimize for multiple. Consider looking into keyword density.

Sort of. Maybe. In some ways. Hard to tell without knowing the whole story / seeing the work.

When buying SEO services from freelancer websites, the most common reason for bad work is incompetence, not malice. I have definitely hired people for services where shoddy work was done, but it's not that they tried to scam you, they just don't have the skill and/or knowledge to do a good job.

Not that he necessarily did bad work. Again, it's hard to tell without knowing the whole story / seeing the actual work.

page's yoast keywords section..

Yoast KW section (meta tags) does nothing or at best it does basically nothing. The meta "keywords" tag does nothing. It's only real use is so that you can use it as a reference to see what terms you're going for. Besides that, don't worry about it.

Not super familiar with Yoast specifically, so maybe it also does something besides insert meta tags. But whatever it does, it's probably mostly worthless.

Are you trying to rank for the term "How To Install Wordpress In Cpanel"? Then you'd probably want to put "How To Install Wordpress In Cpanel" into that field. From the Yoast official documentation:

The focus keyword is the keyword that you want your page to rank for, so when people search for that keyword, they’ll find you. In Yoast SEO it has its own input field. The plugin evaluates the page’s content and provides feedback on how to improve the content for that focus keyword.

But, if that's the keyword you're going for, you might want to reconsider. You would have to outrank:

• Official Wordpress documenation that targets that exact term
• Official cPanel documentation that targets that exact term
• Documentation on like fifty different domain registrars that targets that exact term
• Documenation on like fifty different websites that sell webhosting that targets that exact term
• A ton of miscellaneous other people going for that exact term

It's a live website so all pages are already created by me. So I told him to configure SEO currectly which improve rank and gave him multiple keywords per pages...

So basically it's a on page SEO and he said it's done from his side. And he said for offpage seo I need to keep update on social and blogs..

• Have him create a page for each individual keyword instead
• Group relevant keywords and tell him to include them in the page as described under the "Buy Blue Widgets" example in my earlier post then tell him to include them in the content. You might have to add more content if it's too small of a page to naturally fit in that many keywords.

It's very hard to effectively hire for SEO or to manage SEO projects and SEO contractors until you have a strong understanding how SEO works. Seems like you have a basic grasp of how SEO works, which is good. If you want to manage this project well, it would benefit you to do a lot more reading. Anyway, these are my recommended starting places for SEO reading:

Without the experience/knowledge to run a project on your own, it is likely that you'll lose a lot of money.

Definitely agree with this. When you are the business owner or the person making the hire, especially if you're hiring freelancers/contractors or employees (rather than a company), you should feel responsible to pay for work, even when it's not perfect.
