How do people go about hiring people for their businesses?

Which sites do companies frequent to set up an ad to look for legitimate and reliable people to hire? Not some guy sitting in some country with broken english etc.

I am talking like people from first tier countries, with a university degree and so on.

And how do I go about filtering who may be right for me? I don't wannt to waste time and money to do rookie mistakes.

Maybe you should start with VAs first. They cost only a few $ an hour and it can be good practice for hiring people. Eventually you can hire more and more expensive VAs until you are ready to hire real live people.

If you really think VAs can help you, you are confused, misinformed, short of money, short of intelligence or all three. Not always do you get a VA who can meet your expectation, let alone exceeding it. And you said 'real people'? If you ever get a robotic VA, please let me know.

Exactly, I will not work with VAs, that's what my OP is all about! I want to work with people that are legitimate and reliable. People with education and a certain background. I am having a legitimate white hat business and I want real employees to work for me

If you hire a 'VA writer' it means the position is of a writer, so that person should be an expert content writer. Same way 'va comment - link builder' means a link builder. You see, you are already segregating the person based on skills. Aren't you? So the better option would be to hire an online employee (for a specific task), and not a VA.

You are wrong about that. Or rather misinformed.

And if you are looking for offline employees, try local job boards, newspaper adverts, local Craig's list.

I think you're confusing what a VA and a remote worker are.

If you have a influx of seo experts / writers / coders etc in your town, then advertise locally.
Otherwise you go to Upwork, BHW, PPH, onlinejobs.ph and hire through there.
Another option is Craigslist or finally, you pay a recruitment company to find you the staff you need.

Modern: connecting with prospects through social media (LinkedIn is probably the most known).

Also, this is going to be what you want specifically to fulfill the position, and are you willing to invest as far as time & energy.

Another question is what exactly is the position/title that needs filled? What's the niche/industry? Can you simply get a college kid vs tenured professional?

I am looking to do both, but I don't know where to look for traditionally. I don't even know local job related sites to post ads on. Thats the issue lol there are so many and most of them are bogus.

I am willing to invest time and energy AND money since the job ads are going to cost money on bigger sites.

And I can teach it a college kid as well, it's not that complicated. I am just looking for someone who is articulate, hard working not slacking off or doing stuff half heartedly etc.

Big companies also do trial and error method. Prepare a checklist of what you want and then get started.


In order to find someone 'hardworking' you'd have to know stuff yourself first. And yes screen through people, conduct interviews, get the vibe. And try out 'trial and error' method. Might seem complicated but if you know what you want and how to do it, you'd weed away time wasters.

Too bad I don't know much about local boards and job sites to have some adverts there as well, probably gonna need to google them and stuff.

Curious to see how much I pay for a "job lead" and how many people will actually sign up. I'd die to have around 5 employees right now to do the tasks that I want them to do

Job boards are definitely a good start - I wouldn't necessarily think that PPC will be worth your spend for this.

In the past, when I've been trying to recruit university educated people (or even university students) I had a lot of luck with LinkedIn and other social sites. Additionally, you can sometimes work with local colleges to let them know that you have open spots for recent graduates.

Big companies recruit new employees by making it a full time job or even a division with procedures, standardized content, interview process, etc. Depending on how bad you need candidates and how much you want to spend, you can hire a recruiter, but many charge at least 10% of the full-time salary of the employee hired.
