Well most of CIS countries citizens understand and speak russian freely, and even some people from Eastern europe do. This is why russian internet, or as they call it Runet, is so large.
I live in eastern europe (Lithuania) and can say that Russian language was relevant 20 years ago when you were forced to learn it...
Now it's usually second foreign language learned at school, and most of the students, myself included, learned only how to read with half of vocabulary missing

I am Russian, however currently I live in Dallas, TX
Feel free to PM me

I just wanted to get acquainted with Russian speaking!
American and English alike, as well as Russian and Ukrainian.
I will repeat again: every Ukrainian knows Russian. But not every Russian understands Ukrainian.
The languages are very different.

For example I live in Ukraine and in my city (1.5 mln.populations) they say 96% of the population in Russian but we all know Ukrainian!

where in Ukraine? I lived in Odessa

Hey. I'm from the first capital of Ukraine =)

А я с гоуфака. Путин, водка, балалайка

No, i don't understand russian actually :|

Why was this thread revived?

It looks like posts in Cyrillic from before the forum migrated are broken. Interesting.
