Rand Fishkin was nice to him, and that kind of social acceptance means a lot to him. Remember, Rand Fishkin is a "high standing member of the SEO community" LOL. This is a guy who's looking for acceptance from his own phone...."my phone is so nice to me, google told me to buy a dinky I had searched for 24 hrs earlier".

As if 10 years ago Rand Fishkin wasn't buying links from the same fucking link manager I was! I looked and said well whaddya know his wife's blog has some of the same links I had just rented from the exact same source. That was nice, in the meantime he and Matt Cutts were working together (at least they seemed to be) on some project, showing how great a new Google feature was (I think they were trying to prove that negseo was impossible or something like that), while in the background he was buying links right under Matt Cutts' nose.

The difference between folks like me and Rand Fishkin is he's in the business of showing off his lifestyle, like Jeremy Schoemacher and John Chow. They make money essentially by showing off what they have, so people feel exactly like this guy ^ ^ does..."he was so nice to me, he accepted me as a friend so now I can make money too!!" Whereas I make money from my technical skills and I never show anything off. I dread of being a guru or coaching anyone. I lead a quiet life, you won't see me around and my $$ is safe. I travel if I feel like it, I stay here if I don't.

I don't know how we got to this point, but I suppose I proposed we all create Twitters to have some fun at the expense of the showoffs. Might still be a good idea, if enough politically incorrect folks join up. At least now we know who not to invite.

And, Ste, I'm not into ball sucking, but I think you've found your partner already.

I think both of you have a point here. @Ste Fishkin is right when he says that you or anybody shouldn't focus on what a guru does, but you're also right that Ste is a little biased toward Rand for providing help. Reciprocity trigger.

The best way is to be neutral. You neither kiss guru's ass nor call him out. You just focus on yourself.

Dear Bartosimponio,

I apologise for being nice and admiring the standing of Rand Fishkin within the SEO community, the same man who was nice enough to give me 30+ minutes of his time to give me free advice to go further with my career last year.

I also apologise to yourself and the rest of BHW for admiring the work that Google have done. In fact it was just today that I got an alert on my phone telling me a product I was looking last week at was now on sale at a local store. It gave me the directions to the store along with their closing times. It even told me when the store would be the least busy. Doesn't that impress you in the slightest?

I apologise for finding such technological advances beneficial to my life. I apologise for saying Rand was a nice man.

Have I upset you in any other way?

In the last year I have learnt a lot, one thing I was doing that I think you are guilty of is making excuses for your own lack of success by pretending you don't "want" to be the people you criticise, like there is something wrong with them and while Rand Fishkin is travelling the world with millions in the bank with his lovely wife, you're sat at home in front of your TV with you laptop eating pizza and talking shit on the internet about how they are bad people.

Stop hating bro, it will get you no where. You are currently experiencing the full effects of it. Getting mad because they "cheated" and made it, you already lost.

There ain't a shortcut for hard work, take a look at the first posts on the Moz blog. They have no posts, no interactions and they are from 2004 or something.

Rand probably put in years and years of work growing these out with minimal traffic/success while you were watching the sopranos (or whatever TV show was big then). He didn't cheat, no one gave him this on a plate, no short cuts were taken...

He worked hard and made it happen, I respect that.

If you have a problem with that then I guess you can suck my balls.

Thanks

This must be the politest and most long winded way of saying FUCK YOU I've ever seen!

LOL.

He wrote all that just to be able to say "Barto suck my balls" at the end. In fact he wrote "suck my balls" first, then the rest, cuz he felt like Demi Moore on GI Jane. It was his liberation moment. I'm no longer a boy amma Navy SEO now!

Google fan in love with Rand Fishkin. Get me outta here.

I'll pay a round too.

You guys realize that stopping work to hate on a guru is about as productive as inviting a mormon into your house to argue religion with them when they knock on your door.
