Changing website domain name any tips?

Looking for input from anybody who has changed their domain name. I'm wanting to move from a country TLD to a .com to broaden the audience (plus i can't stand the domain name)

The existing domain is 9yrs old with a TF15 and over 1000 hand written articles (it has huge potential).

I pick it up dirt cheap and want to optimise and seo it properly (white hat) for the long term.

Just a little more than concerned about losing traffic as I simply have not done it before.

Any advice appreciated. I'm all ears!

Changing the domain require a lot of work to do.
Here are some:

1. On the site, you have to edit anything related to the old domain.
2. You have to move the SEO results to the new domain.
3. Some users might not understand that you got a new domain, so create an automatic redirect on the old domain.

No it won't happen, just move your SEO to the new domain.
Also as I remember, Google AdSense can give you the opportunity to change the site domain? Also maybe the other ad networks.

No it won't happen, just move your SEO to the new domain.

Something like that, its a .com.au and I want it to be a .com The domain is a bit uppetty/snobby for my liking and I aim to change the tune of it to get on a broader audience.

It actually fits a niche that I'm a specialist in, so I'd like to brand it accordingly as well.

Far as seo, first 301 the entire old domain to the new one. Make sure all redirects work. Search for stuff the old one ranks for, click on the results and make sure it's the same content on the new domain. Everything ok?

Then go to google search console(formerly webmaster stools) and verify both domains. Then do a "site move" from the old domain to the new. Google will check for the 301. It'll be place from step 1, so all your juice and traffic from the old domain flows through.

That's all. Then of course let your social media followers know of the new domain and how many trees not typing .au it'll save in 10 years.

Oh one more thing if you don't mind me picking your brain.

Do you think if I replaced it with an aged domain it would carry some of that old juice over as well? kind of combined powers.

Or will Google be awake to when I do the swap in Search Console?

If the topics are closely related between old and new domain it will carry some weight. If totally unrelated it'll only fool ahrefs and majestic metrics, but not Google.

Yeah topics the same it's just really a rebrand towards a broader audience.
