Does anyone know any high quality writers that work fairly cheap?

So this weekend I was out of town and couldn't write my own articles so I decided to hire a freelancer from freelancer.com. Well, that happened to be a huge mistake. I ordered 3 articles for 15 dollars but ended up spending an hour on each article practically having to re-write them myself.

I was wondering if anyone knows any good freelancers that speak and write native English that will work fairly cheap. Like $5 per 500 words cheap. I would love to save myself a headache the next time I am in this sort of predicament.

Cheap content usually doesn't result in high-quality articles. With that said, there are plenty of great writers here on the forum (myself included) although my pricing is out of your budget.

Take a look at the Content/Copywriting section and you'll easily find plenty of decent writers that are within your price range.

I hire on upwork for about $6-7 per 1000 words. Quality is nearly top grade but not native.
It can take a while to find good writers in the crowd. Make sure to ask for previous writing samples and judge by that.
If you have loads of writing tasks, then first outsource only 1-2 article to examine the quality.

The word cheap and quality do not go well together. Your only bet is to search in underdeveloped or 3rd world countries, where the inflation and poverty is high enough for that to happen.

Use Upwork and require writing samples before hiring. Allow fresh users to apply. They are trying to build up their ratings for higher paid customers. This is best for small batches of articles. You can also play the Fiverr game but usually it's overpriced outsourced crap. BHW is a minefield as well because there are solo writers advertising high quality content but they are actually a front for agencies outsourcing to cheap laborers.

Also, higher quality writers will often be attracted to bulk pricing if they are desperate. Maybe you won't find a lot willing to write for $1/100, but you'll find a lot (on Upwork, at least) willing to write for $500/month

Have you tried Fiverr? Some of the packages offered a right around your budget. Try out different sellers from time to time and lock on someone you like. Figuring it out during emergencies usually has the high probability of a bad output.

freelancer is the worst place. Check these forums for quality people and also check Upwork. I recommend you have a clear idea of the quality of work you have in mind and run everyone through an interview on Skype et.c,
