I thought a long time; what can I do to make money online too? So tried lots of methods on BHW, some worked better than others, in the end it all comes down to the execution by the person. Not by the method, well that's my opinion TBH.

So I thought, what can I do, to make my own method, to make myself feel comfortable with it?
After a while I came up with an idea, based on stuff I've learned from my studies back in the days.
Basically it consists out of setting up free WiFi networks. It may sound boring, but what I do brings in quite a lot of money.

For example. I drive to a shopping center, set up a WiFi network there and give them a landing page like many of the legit free networks. Instead of giving them a legit one, I give them my own landing page. Sometimes it consists out of Google ads, sometimes a content locker, etc. Lots of variations I do with this.

Besides this, they have to register, like most landing pages for free networks, which gives me a lots of different mail addresses, which I use once in a while.

In shopping centers I offer them ofcourse a landing page with lots of shopping related items, so it seems legit.
But besides this, there are a lot of different other places. Used this method at some airport carparks, not far from the terminals, and supplied it with a free WiFi. Instead of serving them a shopping landing page, I offer them a travel landing page, with ofcourse the ads, or a content locker.

Up to now, it brings me about 300£ a day on average for the last 9 months.

I think it was about time for me to bring something back to BHW, the place where I've learned a lot from others. A lot of variations are possible with this method. Just let your mind go .

What software/hardware do you use to broadcast your own wifi network that supports creating a captive portal?
Phone + router + big battery pack?
Or can you set up captive portal on android device w/ mobile hotspot?

Could use any router that supports DD-WRT. As wel as a lot of different routers you could use. And I keep my complete setup completely portable. With portable I mean in a car. Park the car and everything is powered by the car battery. After like 3 hours I pick up the car, and I've earned money for the day.
I don't necessarily supply them with a real connection, although most of the time I do. Just by putting my hardware in front of the hardware at the places I go.

Now what about if you live in a densely populated area (like above a shop in a the centre of town) and having the system run 24/7? make good money even when you aren't around.

I suppose there could be legal implications but im not sure.

Visitor volume depends on how popular the place you go to set up shop is. You can do it at fast food restaurants, movie theaters, malls, and hotels.
As for making money on it, I'm sure you've seen captive portals. Usually when connecting to public wifi, you're sent to a custom welcome page asking you to accept ToS or something. That's a captive portal.
The method is you make your own kind of page like that. But instead of showing a corporate welcome screen, show them a cpa offer to complete in order to continue. Email submits/app downloads are popular for this. See: content locking.

Yes adsense I mean. Have a few different webpages set up myself. Although this only consists about 25% of my income. Most of it consists out of earning money out of people doing a survey while being in a content locker.
It all depends on the location I park a car at. If I park it at an airport carpark, i'm not coming up with some restaurant deals, unless there is lots of restaurants ofcourse in the nearby area of the airport. You just have to put things together.

I've not tested it 24/7, since I mainly target shopping centers, which are EASY. People come there to shop, so if they get some 'deals' on a fake page, they would click through. The people are interested anyway since that's the reason why they come to that specific place.

Same as airports. Why not point them on a discount for a specific airport restaurant, or carpark. And give them a link to it on my landingpage?

You might ask me where I get my internet connection from, but that's very simple, and problably very blackhat. I just get it from their own facilities, at their own airport.

Yep. And that on the landing page of a guest network basically. Lots of twists available.

Depending on location, day and which time of year.

If I drive to London, certain busy bits at a saturday afternoon, i'll get more traffic than driving to your local tesco's store at a monday morning at 10AM.

just a hint, if say a security researcher would be to run into your portal and wants to find out where the sender is, he can trace the location of your car by signal strength and there is also handheld hardware to pinpoint wlan devices. anyways as from a legal standpoint i think you're ok even, as long as you don't hijack another hotspot and just create your own, you can make your own terms for users connecting to your network. so just by putting a ToS there where you say you show advertising in return for the free wlan would be sufficient i think. though i'm not a lawyer, so don't take my word for it

Haha that's exactly from what background I come. Background in pentesting / security researching etc. OSCP, CEH and CISSP certified.
Could of easily launched a mitm attack, from what I am doing, but than I would cross a certain line which would make everything illegal. So I stay on the legal but very blackhat side of the law.
