It’s seems that hardly a day goes by without someone posting asking for a way to make money with zero spend.

Generally there are a lot of good answer like micro working and making use of the gig economy.

But I thought to myself can I make money with zero spend?

So that’s the point of this journey to see how much I can make in 100 days without spending a penny.

So what do I mean by zero spend? Well exactly that:

No domain name purchases
No hosting fees
No auto responder
No listing fees

Zero Spend.

Now for some self imposed rules:

Nothing illegal.
No selling anything I already own
No using anything I already own
No reinvesting money

This is a complete zero spend challenge.

So what’s the plan?

For this I am going to produce a low content book (in this case a journal) and publish it on Amazon. I know it’s hardly original but it’s quick and free to do.

To create the low content book I will simply be using a free Canva Account.

Then I am going to promote the journal through the following channels:

Instagram:

3 reels a day and 2 quote posts.
Interacting with post from key influencers.
Manual follow unfollow method.

Reddit:

Reposting reels and quotes
Q&A method.
Will also do an AMA

YouTube:

Combination or shorts and long run videos.

Forums:

Posting and interacting in relevant forums and mimicking my Reddit posts.

Press Release:

Old school press release strategy selling a story to niche magazines and radio stations.

So no spend and no idea what will happen with this book but let’s find out….

Edit for clarity. I have a full time income and don’t need money and could spend on this of I wanted to but want to challenge myself with this.

This sounds like a plan. I just want to point out that there are literally many ways to make money without spend but spending usually speed up the process. And if you really don't have a penny then why not avail of free trials?

As for Amazon - you will get a lot better results if you publish short Kindle books. It is free to write and publish.

Interesting. It is appreciated that you do have a clear idea of what you want to achieve and your roadmap for that. Now, you are all set to take action on your plan. I think it is achievable. And once you make some sales, you will along the way tweak your methods, improve upon them, add some new strategies, later add some new product(s) and look towards scaling things up. Sincerely wish you all the best.

Thanks. I have update the end of my post for clarity. I completely agree on the benefits of paid.

I guess free trials would fit into my criteria

Thanks. One of my thoughts is to add pod products later on from red bubble if this catches on

I agree - too many newcomers join the forum expecting something for nothing. It's impossible to be successful in internet marketing without investing either money or time. Nice unique journey - best of luck to you.

The longest journey starts with a simple step

well in this case looking at a map.

today I have started my market research on Amazon and other bookshops. I am looking for a group of people who

Journal
Share a common interest
Buy online

I have used a couple of free online tools to check the sales of books on Amazon but kindle and real books.

having found three catergories I am interested in I checked the sales of the 20th 10th 2nd and 1st bestseller.

the reason I am looking at these is I want to know I have a chance of getting into the top 10 so I am determining the competition. I also want to make sure there are sales at the bottom of the market as well.

At the top end I want to know there are a good amount of sales but not so many that it’s next to impossible to compete.

using this I eliminated two catergories and have settle on what type of journal I am looking at.

the top end of this category sells around 200 a month and isn’t seasonal.

what I have noticed is that in the journaling market a lot of people show there inside pages which has been very handy. I now have a bunch of ideas for my journal.

I really want to make repeat sales so this journal will dedicate 4 pages to each day. This will take the book length to over 120 pages but also hopefully incentivise the target audience to buy month and month.

So that’s the book done.

Front cover and internal pages done thanks to Canva.

Really no hassle at all it involved changing around their template and adding a free stock image from pixabay

As mentioned before the internal pages are based on what I saw in the research.

The front cover has been done like wise. I spend a bit of time looking at colour schemes and images on the best selling books and products as well as on a few different websites.

For the front matter I ran a YouTube video on the subject through a YouTube to text website.

made some manual adjustments through just reading and grammarly. I then ran this edit through quillbot. Pleasantly surprised with the quality of quillbot.

I had to make a few changes afterwards but that was the book done.

Book has now been uploaded to Amazon.

Next it’s to create the secondary product which will work like the tripwire and to start looking at the press release.

So I have been gathering together a list of websites and journalist who have reported stories with my niche.

One thing with mainstream media is they know what their audience likes so I aim to craft my press release around similar older stories. I will then directly email the journalists with the story.

Just to give an example if my niche was involving near death experiences I would do a Google search on nde’s plus the newspaper name. If there are several articles on the subject I will take note of the journalists and look for their contact name.

Mainstream media isn’t too hard to get coverage in you just have to work a bit harder at it.

I will make a few tweet to the story to suit each publication and see what happens.

I have created the secondary product and uploaded it to YouTube with stock footage and royalty free sounds. A few graphics from Canva and done.
