YT video length

Hi guy,

I and my competitor have the same uploaded YT video which its length is 20 minutes.... According my video dashboard 90% of visitors just tend to watch around half of it. Because YT looks at high retention views to rank a video as well, so do you guys think that it is a good idea to use the YT tools to reduce my video to half so that get higher rank than my competitor? Any affect with this method?

If people watch 50% of your video that awesome!

Yes if you just cut it in half then upload the second part separately and you link the two together in a playlist and with video annotation at the end of the first one that is an absolute overkill.

My understanding of the YouTube algorithm is, do not cut your video in half. YouTube cares less about "Average View Duration" and cares more about "Total Watch Time". So, I recommend going with what gives you the highest number of total minutes viewed.

I really wish YouTube would reverse this and give more weight to "Average View Duration" because I think higher quality videos would become easier to find.

Thanks, but what do you mean by the term cutting here? cutting the video and re-upload it or you mean using the tool embedded in YT to reduce the length of the video (which is restorable of course)...?

Can you please be kind enough to explain what you meant as well? It is not so clear to me....
Now I reduced the video length to almost half using the YT tool, So do you suggest to restore it to it to its original length?

Can you please enlighten the difference between "Average View Duration" and "Total Watch Time" by your kind my friend?

As I understand it, the Average View Duration are the estimated average minutes watched per view, while the Total Watch Time are the estimated total minutes of viewing time of your video(s).

Thanks buddy, But your saying is vague to me! DO you think that by reducing the length of a video to say half by the YT toll if a visitor watches the whole of the halved video then YT assumes that he/she visited part of it (the average) not total?
Please explain and enlighten it to me if possible?
