I totally agree with you about both tools. I don't bother using either for search volumes. This is from TubeBuddy: "Unfortunately there is no precise data available when it comes to search volume and competition. We work in relative terms and compare search results to other search results on YouTube."
There isn't currently a tool that will give you search volume for YouTube, I've spend a lot of time searching for one. There was a software called VideoCents a few years ago, but it looks like they're no longer in business. Being able to pinpoint where traffic is coming from on YouTube is extremely difficult. The only accurate option is to rank videos and check your analytics to see what people are searching for.
