I?m mostly a lurker, but I have been studying YT for awhile now and I?ve noticed some trends and I?d like to add to the community. I hope this helps.

I "believe" <-- (read my opinion) the days of mass views being the "it factor" are over. I've been doing 5-10 high PR (7-9) commenting for a few weeks now along with out sourcing back linking both internally and externally. In my research I have found that channels with a Pr of 6 have mostly 4-5 pr videos and maybe a 6 here and there. I find the channels with Pr's of 7-8 have mostly 6's and 5's the more 6's the more likely it's an 8 channel. The exception are mostly EVO channels take JB he has a channel of like 7 and has some pr 7 videos in there. When you go to their channel and check the Pr of the videos look at the "most popular videos" and you will see a lot of the times a video may have like 70 million views, but be a pr 5 or 6 video, but the another video has 7 million views and be a pr 7. I find that the new "it factor" are "factors" i.e.: the likes and social shares and in some cases the Favs. I have found time and time again videos with 6k views and 2k likes and a few share being a Pr 7 video. It's happening more and more often. Look at the highest subscribed channels and more and more of them have mostly pr 5-6- maybe 7 videos in them. It's becoming too apparent that YT only cares about the popular/cool kids channels. Back linking your channel is more important then your video IMVHO. The video may rank quick and stick for a while, but you can be over come by a less viewed video, but it has more shares, likes, faves. If your channel is higher then the video Pr doesn't matter for a while you will rank because your popular.

I see it working something like this... You have Jeff and Jim. Jim has a pr 4 or higher channel. Jim posts a video and YT says this guys has already shown the pertinacity to be popular. People like his channel so lets give him the benefit of the doubt and give him a little more authority and rank his video in the search engine a bit higher off the bat. He ranks higher and gets more views and this kind of perpetuates his popularity with VIEWS. But if he doesn't get a good amount of likes and shares and maybe a few favs he is passes up by Jeff. Jeff does everything Jim does, but because he has a less popular channel it takes him longer to get the view count up to get the shares, likes and favs. But, if he sticks with it and does indeed get more likes, shares, and favs, even if he has a lot less views he will rank better and longer.

So, I feel like the name of the game is step 1. Get a high Pr channel. There are a lot of ways to do this and some more successful then others, but that is not important. Just do it.
Having a popular channel makes all your other non popular videos rise in rank because your channel is of a higher caliber thus you get more traffic to all of your videos 2. Get your video liked and shared with some favs. 3. Views..... Social proof only. I don't see this being a big deal you don't need millions of views for a video a few thousand, (depending on the niche if your a music artist social proof is very important and you need more views) get enough views to make it look real you cant have 10,000 likes and 200 views, but like I said I don't really see the 100k view videos being as high of a PR indicator as they use to be.

I see YT as others have alluded to more and more like SEO. So, treat your YT channel the way you would a website. Back like it, imbed your video on high Pr pages and pass the link juice back and forth from the imbedded site to your channel and when your YT Pr rises vise versa. Get more likes and shares and Favs, with YT becoming more stringent with how long or where your video was viewed it seems safer to stick with more likes, subs, favs and share anyways. That?s my .02
