YouTube is a fairly new game for me so I'm not sure how similar it is to ranking a site or property in a Google SERP.

I uploaded a bunch of videos and sent a bunch of traffic at them. They're getting fairly stable views and subs but 70% of the traffic source is external.

I've seen how quickly Google indexes a YouTube video but my assumption is it'll be a while before I find out if they'll rank the videos well on YouTube search/Google or if I'll have to send more metrics?

Anyone with experience in this appreciated. Entirely new ball game for me here.

To rank on YouTube - you need views, subs, votes, comments

To rank on Google - backlinks.

I don't think anyone can give you an estimate how long till they rank because it depends on many things including the KWs you want to rank for, competition, video quality etc

I've got views, subs and embeds dripping through and I've been around long enough to know nobody can predict a timeframe for ranking - but I'm not sure how similar YouTube SERPS are to Google.

Is it just a normal case of waiting for it to rank then? YouTube doesn't have some specific rule of ranking fast or not at all?

Your traffic sources being 70% external isn't a problem :)

You should rank in YouTube search results within 3 weeks in my opinion (although usually sooner). Sometimes videos rank instantly and are able to hold their position where other times they can be no where to be seen for several days. It's worth noting that it's common for videos to rank in a day or two then slowly drop down the results over the following days as your botted services slow down or stop - I've had videos rank on page 1 for a few days, drop so much they are no where to be found, then rank back on page 1 a few weeks later.

As you say, nobody can predict a timeframe for a solid ranking. But IMO, if your video has not ranked after 2-3 weeks then there was probably an issue with your video, channel, or botted services that messed your results up. If after a few days your video has more views, likes, shares, backlinks, etc. then competitors but it's below them or no where at all, do not worry as indexing delays are common.
