Hey White Hats !
Got two questions :
Is it wise to take search volume provided by the google keyword planner as metric to track keywords on Youtube?

What are tags for a Youtube video? What do they represent exactly?

Hey,

For your queries find my observation below in orange :

Is it wise to take search volume provided by the google keyword planner as metric to track keywords on Youtube?

No, its not good to use same matric for YouTube Keyword research because YT algorithm is different from the google algorithm. There are no. of YT keyword research tools such as Kparser, Hypersuggest etc, which helps you in getting exact matrics as per the YT search

YT tags are usually a phrase & words which you can use in your description & by doing this viewers & YT may know more about your video & help them in ranking better

I hope I helped you with my info :)

@Rockstar11 , Thanks for the info.
I don't know why, I am making the assumption that if a keyword gets search volume from google, it implies that it does for Youtube too, however the vice versa is not necessarily always true. There's this correlation of when you type type something on the Google search engine , you get results from Youtube, so if someones clicks on the video link, where does it count , on the google metric? the Youtube metric? Both? I don't know...I don't know if I make good reasoning anyway.

For Tags, would you like to elaborate, I mean, do they have to contain the target keyword in them for better results, or you can put any related keywords to the main keyword? What works best.?

Agreed for your first part that we can use the keywords which we had research for google in Youtube as while searching in google you can see the YT video results as well but that also possible if the distribution of video is done properly & in many good PA DA sites.

On the other hand Yes we cannot able to use the keyword which we researched for YT ranking with its metrics for Google promotions as here the algorithm takes place.

For Tags, yes for ranking we need to use smartly our targeted keyword in description which we call keyword stuffing & yes you can also use similar kind of keywords as well. But always take care that you are not over stuffing the keyword in description.

I stumbled upon keysearch, would you say that tool better, worse or the same as you recommendation of Kparser and Hypersuggest?

Youtube tags are words that you can add in your YouTube video's description. It will help your viewers as well as Youtube to know what the video is all about and helps to have a better ranking on the platform's search results.

I think it's important to mention that none of the so-called "youtube keyword tools" actually give real search data. Any claim for accurate search volume for Youtube is false, as Youtube does not provide any access to this information since around 2013.

Those tools usually either copy Google search data and pass it as Youtube search, or give an estimated indication based on the auto-suggest feature on Youtube.

As Rockstar11 said, the search volumes differ a lot between Google and Youtube - they are two totally different search engines and users many times use totally different keywords when using Youtube.
My favourite tool to do Youtube keyword research is Ahrefs.

Fundamentally, people use Google and YouTube in different ways, so I wouldn't say that the ways they search on Google and YouTube are identical.

you may use tubebuddy to collect keyword for Youtube keywords.

I agree. Wouldn't say they are completely different, but I will say that user behavior is definitely not the same.
