YouTube revenue ?

So, I just got an email from YouTube saying that I could use my videos to earn revenue. Now this sounds good, but the email makes it out as if there's only a chance I'll be allowed if I decide to do it.

Here's another few things that could give me trouble :

1) All my videos are from a concert from last year - are they copyrighted ?

2) I only have around 15k views throughout 6 or 7 videos - I thought you needed more than that ?

3) Just found out my YouTube account is linked to my Adsense account that I use on my websites - so I could risk being banned since I have music videos (live from a concert).

Anyone have any opinions on this ?

It's not likely that you'll get banned (either by YT or AdSense) for having these concert films. Worst case scenario, YT will not allow you to use them for the revenue sharing platform. For example, I have several videos that are approved (all original content) and a couple that feature copyrighted music. The latter are not revenue enabled. In my case, I could prove to YT that I have permission to use the copyrighted material and get them enabled but I don't really care as the vids don't get that many views anyway. Bottom line, you probably won't risk your account by opting in to the program. Typically, the only ones that do get burned are those that consistently upload obviously infringing videos. I'd go forward if I were you.

EDIT: Realized that I missed a few of your questions:

Yes, the concert films are probably under copyright (depends on what sort of concert it is - major artist? local band? etc.) More than likely, the artist could claim infringement if they wanted to. It's anybody's guess if they will. Still, I wouldn't stress too much over it.

I'm not sure of the threshold as to when YT decides you're "worthy" of the revenue sharing platform. It seems to be arbitrary, to be honest.

My videos are from a Deadmau5 concert which were recorded by me. I presume they are copyrighted since he is very well known.

Yeah - they probably are. But, since you're already over 15K views on the vids, you're probably fine. YT would have slapped you by now. Hell, most of mine that infringe don't even get published! So, I think you're cool to proceed.

Btw any figures when Youtube approves videos for revenue sharing?
Got a Guide Video 10k Views - got rejected, and cant be enabled for monetizing anymore.

All it would take to delete your videos is a complaint by the copyright holder.

It seems to just be random. I may be wrong about that. But, I have one account that got approved for rev share after about 20K total views on about 20 videos. Another (more legit account, to be honest) took over 100K total views to get approved. I'd love to hear also if anyone knows the "guidelines" but I'm not sure there are any.

Manny is correct but I still doubt that Cdman would lose his account...or his rev share option for that matter. He'd likely just lose the videos (which he could still upload to another account if he wanted to). I have had videos removed but didn't lose my account. Again, I think that this typically only happens to someone who is consistently uploading vids that infringe.

For example, I had one video that was an OBVIOUS violator (I'm surprised it made it through the start gate, to be honest). I got a shit-ton of views and didn't get slapped until a week later. Nasty letter; YT said I was a terrible, terrible person. I still have the account. I'm still a rev share partner with that account. So, some of the horror stories about losing accounts and such are greatly exaggerated. It just depends on what you're doing. Cdman isn't doing anything incredibly devious.

So basically, even if I get in trouble - my adsense account should not get banned or anything ? That's all I care about really.

Don't see me making much money from it anyway to be honest, but maybe I could come up with more ideas to make new videos ? Although my name is deadmau5_City (from the concert)

No problem. That's what we're here for (ideally; that and calling each other names and being general blackhat hipsters and such).

As others have pointed out, getting into the rev share program can sometimes be a real bitch. So, I'd go ahead and opt in and then start thinking of ways you can monetize future videos. By the way, you don't have to opt in right away - you can always make other, more legit vids before you accept. If you're worried that you'll get rejected from the program because of these current videos, that's the route I'd take: just make some innocuous, standard YT funny vids or tutorials and opt in. Once you're in - you don't even have to select the concert vids for rev share. You can purposely leave them out if you're worried about being stung. But, for your "audition" process, you might want to have something the mods will give a no-doubt thumbs up to.

To be honest I don't care if I get thrown out of the rev share programme on YT, just NEED to keep my current Adsense account that's years old and 100% whitehat.

I gotcha. To be honest, I don't know if you get thrown out of one that you're getting thrown out of the other. That's a good question. I'm sure someone here can answer that. Personally, I haven't been in that situation.

One thing I think to keep in mind in dealing with Google/You Tube/any program really is that they want to make money too and, in most cases, if you're generating traffic for them, they don't want to ban you. I'd be willing to bet that they'd allow porn on YT if it wasn't such a bad PR move. They'd make bank on that and they know it. lol.

So, my best guess is that if you have sites making them money and get tossed from the YT rev share program, they'd not ban your Adsense as well. But, take that with a grain of salt cuz I really don't know.

If the video is of a concert, you will not be able to earn revenue..something about having people in your video that you don't have consent from "check out the terms...its in there"...if you activated it you risk having your video taken down (not sure about adsense..as lastnight i noticed that i was offered the opportunity to earn from youtube 2 months ago..i applied lastnight and was accepted in literally 20 mins by adsense..it took about a hour for youtube to link my account though. I only have 2 vids up one with 840 views and one with 3,440 views and the account was created 6 months ago. I am not very concerned about adsense..other than it may help my efforts when applying for partner..all of my views are false on that account..and I haven't got in to enough to really know how to monopolize from it..My dilemma is i'm trying to make partner..but now that I have adsense I'm afraid to use video exchange to increase my plays..on the vids that i have activated revenue..i wonder if they can determine where the traffic comes from.
