Youtube Ranking? Keywords are irrelevant

What are the current strategies for youtube ranking? I came across an interesting article that mentioned keywords are basically irrelevant for ranking a video. With the new update what can we do to rank a video for a keyword that is low competition?

Keyword are irrelevant when you have subs already . If you're starting from zero, you need keywords.

Basically what u2u2u2 said. If you're starting out you have to have good keywords to rank your videos but once you get a decent amount of subs keywords don't really matter that much anymore, that's why you sometimes see popular youtubers have a lot of views on their videos but you find out their keywords are terrible. On top of that I would like to say if you're only starting out your channel focusing on long tail keywords would be better than short tail keywords since short tail keywords are way too competitive for you. Focusing on long tail keywords allow you to take advantage of the less competitive traffic and potentially draw in views and subs.

Exactly, starting out use SEO to grow your audience, then start focus much more on getting views from your thumbnails and clickbait titles that might not have the best keywords
