No it isn't some people worked their ass off for those...
I thought that was done by a trick where you insert the thumbnail you want in a very specific frame in the video...might be wrong though.

Thats a method that non-partners do, partners however can just upload their own thumbnail.
So does this mean we don't have to go through the hassle of using the TGN bulk annotator now?
And maybe they will still have to. That's why I'm curious what the criteria for getting them are. Since YouTube shut down direct partner applications, there has been NO way to get them other than joining a network.

That's a lie. You can still become an individual partner without joining a network.

My main channel dates back from 2006, has +10k subs, millions of views but I never applied for partner cause 70% of my material is copyrighted. Finally will have custom thumbnails! Regarding criteria:

This sounds like a disaster in the making in a YouTube stance. Imagine all the misleading thumbs that will be getting reported.
I know that link exists, but do they actually still approve people through it? I thought when they started calling everyone a "partner" they sent out rejection letters saying partnership status would only be automatically granted from now on...

I don't know, I haven't used the application in ages but I mean, why would they put it there if the only way to become a partner is to get automatically selected by YouTube.

What is the TGN bulk annotator? Google just shows me this thread. I am currently building my own bulk annotator, so would like to know about the competition.
It's left over from before they made that change? The official partner page at youtube. com/yt/creators/partner.html doesn't link to that application anymore; it just redirects you to your own account's monetization settings. Either way, I agree there should be some way to get those features from YT without necessarily giving them to every channel.

The link is publicly available, and they forcefully changed the link for the application so it's impossible for it to have been a leftover feature.

Ahh, I didn't see that tiny link, thanks for pointing it out. Obviously they've changed the main "Get Started" button but they've left that link available for "companies". I'd be interested to hear if anyone has gotten approved through it as an individual since the change.
