So here is my dilemma that I feel I created for myself.
I work for a recreational vehicle dealership. I do many things for the company although my primary role is to spend time with clients who buy very expensive luxury coaches and show them how to use them.
About a year ago or so I started doing video orientations of the coaches we sell to help our customers that buy a coach but opt to have us deliver the coach to them instead of coming to our dealership to pick it up and get an orientation from me. The videos. The easiest method for me to get the videos to customers was to upload them to YouTube, with the additional benefit of building a library of different products so eventually I have videos for most things so I don't have to create videos for identical coaches. I just create them without mentioning the clients name so it can be for anyone with that same coach. Well my channel has started gathering a following. As I near 500 subscribers I have started pondering what to do once the channel is eligible to be monetized.
My dilemma stems from the fact that I created my YouTube channel using my company email account.
Sorry I feel I had to explain in detail before finally arriving at my questions.
I don't have experience with monetizing a channel so I am wondering if revenue from my channel will go to my company? Or will I be able to set it up to pay me directly? Before anyone mentions that my company would own any potential revenue, take into account that I produce the YouTube content on my own, using my equipment and resources. I purchased several GoPro cameras, a gimbals, wireless microphones, lights, a couple of powerful laptops to be able to run the very expensive software I purchased to edit the video I shoot. I work on my videos at work at times but mostly at home during my evenings. So I certainly feel I should be entitled to any revenue produced by the content. As I mentioned I started all this on my own just for fun and to help our customers. As my videos got more professional looking now my boss wants me to do them for every coach we sell. I hope that helps to paint the picture of the situation.
So do I get to keep the revenue even though I'm using my work email?
Secondly in hindsight I should have setup the channel using a Gmail account of my own which I may still do but I'm wondering if there would be any way to migrate my subscribers from my existing channel? This way if I were to take a job at a competing dealership I could keep my channel.
