Has anybody had any success/ got any tips on how to get clicks on a link in YouTube description boxes?
I have put a large number of live events (not a video just a thumbnail image with a call to action to "click the link below in the description") but struggle to get any clicks at all.

They are Live Events on good search terms with a page 1 Google ranking but I cannot get clicks on the description link.

Thanks in advance.

Could be a number of different things... what do you mean by large number of live events (how many) - and how big are these niches (estimated w/ Adwords tool)?

And you're saying that your live event has stable #1 - #3 rank in the video widget on G? So that means they are also ranking #1 - #3 on YouTube as well (or around there), correct? Are you ranking for a short period of time (common for live events) or are your rankings stable?

If this is the case, I'd imagine you aren't getting that many views in the first place, and since your video is really bad (no incentive to click on the description link) very few of those views are translating into clicks. But hard to say without more info

Total Noob thank you very much for replying.

The live events (thousands of them) are ranked page 1 on YouTube but more importantly number 1 on Google (and Yahoo and Bing) with fairly stable rankings for traffic keywords.

There is no video streamed as an event but a thumbnail with a call to action i.e. click on the link in the video description to visit the website .

It is a large market as Adwords eats up the money but works so I am baffled why no clicks occur.

It is impossible to know how many times the YouTube live event page has been displayed as there is no view count for these types of listings although my url shorterner can track click throughs which are zero!

Do you or anybody have success at getting description links clicked on using Live Events with thumbnails only?

Many pieces of software are sold off the back of this approach but I am not convinced it delivers any traffic.

the Live Events is a nice method that have a great potential since not many use it yet... let me explain how you can improve your performance

1. first you must be aware that YouTube may show #1 page ranking for your events as you the event owner with the login session and IP/cookie sine you set it and visit the watch page, it will even show on google #1 page
you must have the ability to check from remote location to see the exact 'real' position from other locations...

2. know that the search volume on youtube is not the same as the search volume on google of a kw, so it's hard to tell based on google kw tool estimations, but if you got ranked high on google you will be able to see the actual traffic in real time on your google analytics (each 'waiting' will count under the 60 min and 48 hours real-time stats)

3. to get clicks on your money-site (and you can get 100's per day if you succeed) you must choose a trending subject, that many will look for ON YouTube and trick users to click your link, MUST use a thumbnail that will have a call to action that will make sense to the visitors, as some kw are more likely to be searched on google less likely to be searched for a video result on YouTube (for example "HOW TO" Niche is better with video results)

for example "leaked Sex tape of ...... " and on the thumbnail add a message that "YouTube blocked the content in your country..... click the link below.. bla bla bla "
well this is pure spam but that is the way to use an aggressive approach

on the recent world cup i generated 1000's of daily clicks as i target the main game event (without streaming the real game) i promoted some world cup CPA offers

4. note that if you want boost your event just send real waiting users it will boost the ranking instantly

Strange, do a new batch with a good CTA and display the URL on the video itself, not just in the description. If that doesn't work you are probably doing something egregiously wrong, like your videos aren't actually ranking or your domain has been flagged by AV. This is just a guess though, I don't work with live events, just regular uploads. Can you see if anyone has liked/commented on the videos? That might give you insight into if your events are actually being watched, your still image telling them to click the description will probably generate a lot of dislikes in particular

Brilliant advice thank you.

re 2. Is it possible to see how many people visited the YouTube Live Event page but did not click on my link using Google Analytics? Obviously there is no view count displayed by YouTube as nothing is streamed and I cannot embed tracking code in the YouTube page so I am not sure this is possible?

re 4. so visitors just to the thumbnail (before a live event which is never streamed) will boost the Google rankings for the Live Event? If so maybe I can just do some automated fake visits with different IPs and do you recommend any software for this?

Thank you in advance for your great advice

re 2 . yes, here is the trick when your video is only on "waiting" stage, there will be no public progressive counter but if you go to your NEW studio beta - you will be able to see the counters in real-time

note that this is possible ONLY on the new studio beta

re 4 yes, it will help boosting it on YouTube and also on google, some using it for instant ranking on profitable niches, about traffic you can check the market place for sellers, note that i am talking about a service that sends 5000 visits only (minimum and maximum) and those visitors will turn from "waiting' to viewers if i choose to go live! and they stay for 1 hour + on the event and they add a few hundreds of likes (that mean they are real YouTube users)
i don't think any software will be able to use real visitors that will sit for 1 hour on the event and add likes

Oh wow brilliant info thank you.

I have been using the classic interface and the beta studio one does give some great stats.

I am sure you know this but re publishing a live event (when it is just a thumbnail and not to be streamed) where it loses rankings does push it back up the rankings which is very useful as it saves link building etc

during the transition that will be made on 2019, some stuff is only available on the classic and some is only available on the bets, we need to juggle a bit now between them

yes any new live event (or scheduled event) will get ranking benefit at start, what do you mean by 're-publishing'? create 'New live event from these settings' ?

Yes to replublish the event simply create an identical duplicate event and then delete the original event which has fallen down the rankings and the new event will be back at the top again.

You may even be able to leave the original event in place (not sure) although YouTube may hate lots of duplicates and ban.

I think this is much more powerful than building links/sharing the original live event and a lot easier!

well from my experience if you boost the event ON START it will rank within just a few minutes, then you can leave it to gather more clicks
yes sometimes it may rank by itself with no extra boost and from my own tests backlincks building will not do anything to the video ranking

I agree backlinking seems to have little/zero effect on live event rankings.

I am now starting to see just how fast these live events lose their rankings and I think that is the main reason I have found it so hard to get clicks on the description links.

How do you "boost from the start" for thumbnail only live events with no video to be streamed?

by sending waiting viewers see the thread about it here https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/method-instant-ranking-with-the-new-youtube-premieres.1074930/
waiting viewers will boost pre-premiere and scheduled event it's the same thing

Thanks I ll check it out
