" In response to creator feedback around well-being and targeted dislike campaigns, we're testing a few new designs that don't show the public dislike count. If you're part of this small experiment, you might spot one of these designs in the coming weeks (example below!)."
"Creators, you'll still be able to see the exact number of likes and dislikes in YouTube Studio. For viewers, if you're in the experiment, you can still like or dislike a video to share feedback with creators and help tune the recommendations you see on YouTube."

Psychology. If a lot of people click dislike, others will most likely also click dislike.

I agree, it's a bad idea if youtube want to be a legit plateform.. Everybody will be able to sell handmade vaccines if they apply this...

Dislikes provide good information for various things. For example, there is a tool which you considering downloading, but you are not sure whether it's authentic or just a virus. So you look at how many likes/dislikes the video has to see what others think of it

I'm not quite sure I get what the experiment will achieve though. So hiding the dislike count will...increase views/encourage creators to create more/or...what? I understand that there are no doubt active dislike campaigns...but so are active like campaigns. So surely having both counts gives the balanced view. Or am I missing the point?

I guess they're trying be more like a social media site now? Instagram, Twitter, & Tik Tok don't have a dislike button or a visable metric of dislikes. Maybe YouTube wants to be more creator friendly?

I think it's to stop the "snowball effect" but I could be wrong. Some youtube viewers are really stupid. They would just dislike the content (even without watching it) if they see it has a large dislike count lol.
