Hello there... I am very interested in a pattern i've noticed on this persons channel. I am also wondering if yall could help me figure out what they are doing! A youtube channel that goes by the name "DAK" has been able to rank on the first page for extremely competitive keywords with under 500 views in the span of a couple hours. I will provide an example video at the bottom of the post. Pls lmk if you guys can figure this out!

That's not how ranking works for sure. I have never watched his videos, and he is ranking #6 for me on my Canadian IP and normal browser, both incognito and regular. Then he is ranking #3 on my American IP. I have never watched his videos, tested with incognito and without. Tested 3 different browsers. Ranking changes based on your location. You have to be careful about the information you spread and telling people they are wrong when they are not.

Hey mate,
It doesn't look like they are doing anything special. They are boosting views and likes on all of their videos, including the one you linked to. Their thumbnails are unique and seem to stand out compared to most others in the type beat niche which probably gives then a slightly higher click through rate and in turn a higher ranking.
The reason the video you linked to is ranking so well is because it's only 19 hours old; current iteration of the search ranking algorithm favours newer content for obvious reasons. Follow it and you'll probably see it start to lose it's ranking slowly, even though they are continuing to boost the views and likes in a natural drip fed way (it's hard to rank long term for saturated keywords).
If you're trying to outrank them, create better thumbnails and similar titles to them, implement a similar views and likes boosting strategy, and optimize descriptions and tags similarly. You might want to mess with other engagement signals like buying some social shares and comments (be sure to heart a few comments, reply to all comments; make it look natural). Create 2-3 playlists with your video in the top position plus 5-10 other videos that have the main keyword in their titles, and rank these for relevant longtail keywords. You should test livestreaming or premiering your videos with and without purchasing live/premier viewers to see if either helps you can above your competitors.
Something as simple as them having a better thumbnail resulting in higher CTR for the keyword could be the reason they are outranking you.
