I've always wanted to start my own channel where I would like to comment back on other video that I've been watching or listening. Instead of just commenting in the reply box and become 1 of thousands of comments, I want to show the video in my own video while I voice over comment my opinions about whatever it is I just showed my viewers.

It's kind of like RayWilliamJohnson but without the comedy and jokes. My question is, how does copyright work when it comes to this?

Does it become legal and fine for me to use someone else's video since I am voice overing it with my own content (my own thoughts)? Or does the fact that I use their video make it a copyright infringement issue?

What if I don't actually use the video, but I film the video on my screen...then techincally I am no longer using anyone's video because I am recording my own video of my screen? Does that make it alright?

I would just like to know and be clear on how to post videos with my own commentary on it and not get copyrighted thus not make any money. I would like to see if I can earn some money on my channel.

    Thanks.

Covering news is considered fair use , using someone elses video for there just to be something playing while talking , you will probably get a strike , unless you have their permission . I highly doubt anyone would sue you though . Very few people on youtube have ever been sued for copyright .

Also you should read some about copyright , filming a TV show or any peace of content that belongs to someone else/company is the same as posting the original .

What if I decide to only use the audio clip from a video? For example, if I decide to extract an audio clip say of an interview but I don't post the video....maybe just a picture of that person who you are hearing? Is that safer? Maybe I'll just make a podcast? That way I don't show any video. Would there be any such thing as "audio copyright" for playing someone's voice from a video?

Like I said using other people's videos/audio to get views regardless of what you do ( unless granted permission from the creator ) will always get your adsense suspended and channel banned ( and unless what you're doing falls under the category of fair use ) . If it was that easy, everyone would be taking audio from TV shows and other things like that, posting it and making money. YouTube has inelegant filters that detect anything produced by a major organization, posted by someone else and they right away disable monopolization . There are some workarounds but you will be found regardless and benched . Nothing you can do about it .

Be more clear on exactly what you are trying to do , I might help you .

Hmm, yes so I guess I'd have to ask the content owner? It seems pretty much everything is copyright unless you actually make your own news (music, content) from scratch?

Here's what I was planning on doing. Every morning I wake up and check my facebook. In my newsfeed, I get all kinds of hilarious videos uploaded by someone that was shared and shared until it finally reaches me somehow. They are videos from pets, street fights, cops, etc.....I scroll through them and most of them are interesting and I want to comment on them. But I was thinking, it might be more fun to just video record whatever it is I'm watching on my computer, and then commenting vocally on what I just saw rather than typing a response on each video. That's why it reminded me of RWJ....he's like showing other people's videos of funny animals or crazy people and he just jokes about them and replays them in slomo etc and somehow it's legal and he gets millions of views. I'm not planning on being that successful obviously, but more so, I just want to get thing off my chest, and evoke/invoke(?) a reaction out of people based on my comment or logic. I'm feeling much more inclined to just debate/discuss things via audible than typing text which is very constraining and restraining. I need to speak to explain things.

So, I was wondering if I could just create a sort of channel where I can debate about what we just saw or what we just heard. Maybe I'm not thinking about it the right way...but I want to share my opinions. So then all those other channels who do reviews on other videos, reviews on movies, reviews on world news, are all getting permission to use clips and audio??

Reaction channels are very popular on YouTube at the moment. Take H3H3 Productions, made famous by reaction videos. Other youtubers like Jinx have also made it big in the reaction niche, but have gotten a lot of hate for barely any addition to the video shown. If you can cut and paste sections of the video that you have points to make, then I'm fairly sure you'll be fine. You'll only run into copyright issues if you take the full video and play it start to finish, I imagine.

I'm really doing this mainly for my own therapeutic reasons. I feel that I have a lot to get off my chest but whenever I do, I cause a lot of reaction (good/bad) from people. It seems that my opinions are very volatile in both good and bad ways. I found that I am very good at stirring up the pot and garnering huge interest in comment sections, forums (other sites), and maybe I should see if I can just put some of it out there on a more open/public medium where I have more control of the platform (ie. a podcast or my own youtube channel).

I don't follow a lot of youtubers per se, but I have seen some like that yes. Reaction videos seem like some of the most "lazy man" jobs that gain the most benefits for the work u put into. Other ones like interviewing people on the streets with random silly questions seems to be a popular one too.

I just found this one...seems like he does reviews of his own called "WTF Happened" and he just shares his own opinions on all issues around the world. That's sort of what I want to do. I need to get things off my chest as therapy and maybe, just maybe I can earn some pennies while at it.

I suppose the ultimate goal really for anyone is that all of whatever it is they are doing should be building their "brand", meaning, themselves. You are the brand. So I suppose I'd have to get twitter, instagram, and whatever other social media apps are out there because whether or not my videos are any good or they get copyright striked or my account gets banned, I have to be able to become a brand myself so that people will recognize the name/brand of me, and not just the product. I think the product is really just a means to an ends. It's what will build your brand. So some products will work, and some will fail, but in the end, both success and failure builds your brand which is something nobody can take away from you. Naturally, as you work things out, one should be able to find the niche they are suited for because you will attract certain types of people/consumers or a market, and you should be able to figure that out eventually if you've done enough things for enough time. What I'm trying to say is, doesn't really matter how stupid it is, there are always thousands of people out there, if you can find them, who will be your fan/follower, and be interested in the kinds of things you do/say, whatever it might be.

Don't play a single clip for longer then 30 seconds max at a time. Also, always put a disclaimer at the start of your videos claiming fair use just for some extra security if anything ever does go wrong!
