Hey people,

I have heard that from january 2027 youtube is increasing it watch hours and view count from 4h to 8h and 10M to 20M and the subscribers stays the same 1k,

So wouldnt it be harsh for new channels to grow?
let me know what are your opinions

I see, sad to hear that because I recently build 2 new channels and my channels was growing good but if they increase that, i have to do more and absolutely its very difficult for new channels to grow

Yes, for the new channels it will be more difficult. The strong off-page SEO, backlinks, mentions, social promotion, and natural traffic can be much more important to increase visibility and the attracted audience.

That would definitely make things harder for new channels if true but I’d wait for an official YouTube announcement before relying on those numbers

Yes, it is very difficult and sad for beginners. But beginners have to work hard to improve in this sector. They have to stick with it, they cannot give up halfway. If they stick with it, it is definitely possible to improve.

Even previously monetized channels are in danger. Your monetized channel should be able to maintain at least 20 million engaged views for Shorts every 90 days and 8,000 watch hours for long form videos. If you can't maintain that, you lose monetization. Youtube has become greedier and greedier.

I think doubling the requirements would definitely make things tougher for beginners, especially smaller channels trying to get their first audience.

Yeah true, new channels will face difficulty no matter what because the 10 to 20M is a big jump, 10M looks nothing as a viewer but if you are the creator of the video, every view is an effort gifted TBH

Yes, that's the point. There are more people hitting this bar with low quality content so they've forced to raise it.

You can check it anywhere bro

Yeah true, competition is getting big day by day

And there are no 8k hours and 20M short views

There are 8k valid hours (time for users that use AdBlock or a VPN are non valid) and 20M engaged views (views for people that watch at least 5 seconds of your short before shipping)

I am watching all over social media bro, it is true that they are changing the policies
google it

I would wait for an announcement from YouTube before assuming those changes will be taking place in 2027 in case of double thresholds that would make monetization more difficult for new channels.

I know it

Read what I said

Not only 8k hours or 20M short views but count as they want (and being able to change the count method if they want)

The 8k hours has to be valid hours (no AdBlock or VPN, not suspicious IP,...)
The 30M had to be engaged views (at least 5 seconds watched)

And they shave the numbers as hell how they want, where they want

Everyday is going to be more difficult to get the monetization and more easy to lose it

Doubling the threshold to 8k hours or 20M views definitely raises the entry barrier but it makes sense given how saturated the platform is with AI generated spam content. YouTube is essentially trying to filter out low quality reupload channels and prioritize creators who build real, engaged audiences. If your content is original and holds retention, hitting the new targets is just a matter of time once the algorithm picks up your videos.

yeah this is something really true and everyone should have clarity for that

Yeah, I’ve heard the same. If this update is true, it would definitely make monetization harder for new creators. But honestly, content quality, strong hooks, audience retention, and consistency will still be the key factors for long-term growth.

Doubling the rules to 8,000 watch hours or 20 million Shorts views will make it harder for small channels to start earning ad money, but YouTube is doing this to filter out low-quality content and raise payouts for established creators.

But there are also demonetization clauses if you don't become a YT slave

People are saying that to keep earning ad revenue on Shorts, you must maintain 10 million qualified Shorts views every 90 days on a rolling basis.

And a non clear clause about 1000 valid hours in 365 days for not being demonetized

And of course they don't say anything about what happens with your accumulated earnings if you enter in the temporal demonetization zone

For me, that means that all the people that has a channel, has done an effort to achieve the monetization goals, and then it takes to them several months to arrive to the $100 minimum paycheck are clearly out of YTP when feb 2027 arrives

It's not the same to arrive to some goals in English focused on US market, and having a good general niche
That create content in other languages, focus on your local market and having a very specific or specialized niche

If you are in the second case, you will be out of YTP soon or later

Yo can do high-quality content non in English and for a specific niche and now you have twice harder to enter into YTP and a lot of chances that YT exclude you for payments for not keeping a hard to arrive figures in your channel all the months
