Well guys, over the past few weeks I've done a whole ton of sniffing around BHW to discover different ways of monetizing my IM plans. (As everyone should also do!)
Information overload has been the largest understatement of my life over these past few weeks. One minute I'll be studying adsense, the next affiliates, after that CPA, and then some torrent research for good measure. There are so many highly profitable, yet irritatingly complex methods of monetizing that it makes my head spin. So why haven't I been making a single cent in the past few weeks then?
Well guys, I'll tell you. Most of you already know the answer, but its simply because I'm spending far too much time researching and not enough time in action.
(Duh, right? why am I even writing any of this, every single one of you guys know that when too much time is spent researching and planning that nothing gets done.)
Well, I'm writing this because the moral of the story is NOT simply to keep your research and action well proportioned.
When you're working, and not researching, why? Well, hopefully it is because you have all your methods, plans, and ideas in order and simply have no need to be researching. This is great, it means that your hours of searching and researching have finally paid off and you're ready to embark towards that tasty five-figure monthly salary on auto-pilot. As exciting and momentous as this occasion is, there is something wrong.
Something wrong?! I'm about to be a millionaire, what could POSSIBLY be wrong??
Yes, something is indeed wrong. In all the excitement of getting this mission ready to launch a lot of us, it seems, lose our focus on the basics.
Essentially what we've done is crawled our way through the slow, boring monotony of researching and reading tons of articles that helped us in no way just to find the nuggets of golden information along the way. We got out of our crawl, picked ourselves up and began slowly walking our way through the organizing, planning, creating steps to make sure that when this thing takes off, its not coming back down. We've meandered our way on through the planning phase and start seeing the dollar signs out in the horizon. We pick up our pace as to not lose sight of those dollar signs. We're jogging now, running even, and boy oh boy are those dollars getting closer and closer. They're getting so close that the excitement is simply too much to contain as we find ourselves now sprinting at full speed towards the money. At this point we're running towards those dollar signs so fast that we can't keep our eyes open in the wind. All we know is that the money is in front of us and we want it NOW. We have to know how close that money is so we force our eyes open despite the pain of the opposing wind and... what's this?! The dollar signs are gone! In utter shock we fall to the ground and wonder where our money is.
Well you see, while we were sprinting towards the goal so fast that we had to close our eyes, what we didn't realize is that we got up to such a high speed pace with our eyes shut which caused us to unknowingly run right past the goal. We can look back at those dollar signs that we just passed and notice that about a thousand other people have now reached it before we could simply because we mistakenly lost sight of them in the hype of it all. Sure, we can try to go back and get the pennies laying on the ground after the other thousand vultures took all the real meat.
Now you might be thinking:
A.) who is this weirdo "pieking" and why is he speaking to me in metaphors?!
or
B.) well, if those other thousand vultures hadn't shown up, we'd still have a shot at those dollar signs!
While statement B is very true, and it could easily be the case that our target niche hasn't been sucked dry before we had a chance to bounce back to it, but that is exactly the problem. We've now had to "bounce back". You see, when we collapsed after the shock of losing sight of the dollar signs we kind of got bumped and bruised up, we're totally exhausted after such a sprint, and we simply just don't have it in us to put even a fraction of the energy towards the goal as we previously were so its still a highly unfavorable situation.
Okay, enough of the metaphors and imagery. In plain old black and white, what I'm saying is pace yourself. I'm not going to say its not a race, because it is most definitely a race. But as we saw in the depiction I mentioned earlier, we lost the race to a bunch of slow, noob vultures. If you're moving too quickly, you can and most likely will trip up, you'll lose sight of some of the most invaluable pieces of the puzzle, and you'll never be able to go back at it with the same kind of passion if you have to pick up the pieces all along the way.
So to wrap this all up, I say this to you. It is great to get excited, it is wonderful to be passionate, its awesome to want something so bad. However, please don't exhaust all of that excitement, passion, and want all in the beginning. Pace yourself, take the scenic route, pick up the puzzle pieces that your competition is missing because they are moving too quickly. Never find yourself sprinting to the start or it just very well may be a quick finish and all those weeks of boring search and research might as well start again.
