Everyone believes that web design is only about aesthetics. The reality? If people don't trust, understand, or know what to do with a beautiful website, it's worthless.The majority of businesses fail to realize that design is strategy, not decoration.

Conversions are impacted by each button, color, and layout. The most successful websites are those that are designed to function, not the most aesthetically pleasing.

I’m curious: when designing, how many of you prioritize functionality and outcomes over pure aesthetics?

it is really not too complex in principle, but can be difficult to carry out. more than anything i work from the scope of, what is the purpose of the site. is it for sales, showcase, other? then it informs my decisions. aesthetics are important, but for sales, in the end conversion is key, therefore adding an flag or card that decreases the beauty of the site but ups sales will always be the priority

Totally agree with you! It really depends on the purpose of the site, but if it doesn’t drive results, it’s only the decoration then I always prioritize conversions, even if it means sacrificing a bit of the “wow” factor. At the end of the day "A site that performs wins over one that just looks pretty"

But with the right approach, you can have both great design and strong conversions that engage today’s audience.

I completely agree with your points. A website is evaluated based on its performance and trustworthiness. Design and decoration are important parts of web design, but they do not solely define or highlight the website.
 
Design without conversion strategy is just decoration. A site should guide, not just impress, clarity, trust signals, and CTAs turn beauty into business.

Conversions are impacted by what the subconsious of the reader perceives. If you manage to trigger that, the conversions will happen automatically.

There has to be marketing done also . You need to spend good amount out of pockets just to get a name for yourself.

But to get a good amount out of pocket, it's important to earn double that, so the amount feels like nothing.

Design and strategy go hand in hand. The best approach is to start with conversion goals first, then design around them that’s how real ROI happens.

Absolutely! I feel the same, design should serve strategy, not the other way around. When both align, that’s when the real magic (and ROI) happens. Glad we’re on the same page Your perspective means me a lot...
 
Aesthetics alone doesn´t make a good website.

I have been wondering the same thing these days. I recently started working on my blog and I am still trying to figure out how to make it actually convert visitors.
