Your Top 5 Must Have WP Plugins

Top 5 is difficult as it all depends on the experience of the user and what type of site you have, but these are the top 5 basics Ive got on all my sites:

1) All in one SEO - there are others for SEO purposes, but I just find this one the easiest to work with
2) SEO Smart Links - hyperlink any keywords on your site
3) Seo Search Terms Tagging 2 - when people search for your site - it creates post tags based on search terms
4) Backup buddy - cos you ALWAYS need backups - Ive learnt the hard way!!
5) Statpress - one click analytics

6) Ill sneak in a 6th as well - All in one Adsense and YPN - basically just throws adsense randomly in your post, or in a fixed position - once again - like 5 clicks and its setup

On a side note - some of my sites sell physical products, and for that Reviewazon in the plugin of choice for me

I started out overloading all the plugins not thinking about how it would slow my site down, but luckily the light dawned...

My must have plugins.

W3 Total Cache (yeah, it can be a bitch to configure, but once you've got it right it'll save your server (shared, VPN, etc.) a lot.

Wordpress SEO -this one is pretty amazing. I had Google XML sitemap, and sitemap for image and sitemap for videos, but Yoast has made it so you can lose three plugins for just the one. It even is configured to work with a news sitemap included. It's another one to play around with configurations, but this puppy made me leave Platinum SEO, and I'd had that one for years.

Akismet -if you've got a popular site, this is a must since people love spamming:)

linkDaemon - this one saves you so much time and effort with doing some hardcore linking throughout your entire website. real simple to use and I had much better luck with it than SEO Smart Links.

Statcounter - this one is real simple but goes into some great detail so you know where, when and how long your traffic has been. Google Analytics is fine, but I know some would rather not have Goog knowing what's going on your site:)

nrelate Related Content & NextGen Gallery would be runner-ups if you've got an image heavy site.

This thread was superhelpful. It is good for someone like me who is fairly new to see a lot of people are saying the samething. Without threadkjacking is there something bad about loading a lot of plugins to a site (say they don't play well together or it slows down the site?) Also does anyone have any others? I am going to take the most popular ones from this thread and install them

if all in one SEO makes it to anyones list its a worry.. its a terrible SEO plugin.. well let me rephrase that.. great for me if u use it!

I had a tough time narrowing it down but I came up with this list:

Google XML Sitemaps - Helps Google crawl all of my pages
Make Me Social - Automatically bookmarks all of my posts on 4 bookmarking platforms (twitter, diigo, tumblr, delicious)
Amazon Price Plugin - Allows me to show the price of Amazon products
Link Juice Keeper - Redirects any broken links to my site to my homepage (essential when using aged domains)
Statcounter - So I can see where visitors came from, what keywords I have ranking, etc

Where can I find the "Link Juice Keeper" I have looked all over and haven't found anything about it.?

WP No Category Base - I'm actually very surprised that nobody else uses this. You haven't noticed how retarded WP's out of the box URL structure is for posts? The structure for your posts is completely different from pages. That's retarded, IMO. This removes the required category base from your permalinks so instead of: site.com/topic/category/post, you get: site.com/category/post.

SEO Pressor - Just so I can get a good idea of my post/page SEO.

Google XML Sitemaps. Derp.

Ambrosite Next/Prev Post Link Plus - If you use the next/prev post buttons, this optimizes them. So that you can use your titles as anchor text, truncate long titles and ADD LINK TITLES TO THEM.

My brain - All links have titles. All images have titles/alts. All pages are titled correctly (post > category > home.. Basically your breadcrumbs in reverse. Manually if needed.) All URLs are structured correctly home.com/category/post. All pages are up to SEO Pressor's par with unique keywords/description tags. Navigation is proper, easy to use and AS DEEP AS POSSIBLE OFF THE HOMEPAGE. On most of my sites, you can get 3 categories deep off the homepage navigation. (Menu: Category -> Dropdown level 1 -> Dropdown level 2.)

I dunno.. I'm all about onsite SEO and these take care of a lot of WordPress' out of the box SEO problems that would require tampering with WP's core files (in which case, you lose those changes after updates). The easier it is for Google to read EVERYTHING on your site, the better your onsite SEO will be, the less offsite SEO you require and the more *potent* your offsite SEO is.

I hadn't seen the linkjuice keeper plugin before. Thats a handy one. Gonna grab that now. Thanks.

You can also rip out the contents of your 404 page and insert a PHP Redirect to where ever you like. Take this one step further and do a redirect based on referrer.

awesome thread

My favorite is: ping optimizer. Does the job perfect, and google indexes your new posts faster

i love the facebook tab manager plugin..
essential for all the diff iframe apps i constanly have to create to promote things.

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone had anything new to add. I am putting together a comprehensive list so I figured by bumping it new people could give their thoughts and people who hadnt seen it could learn from it. Feel free to list more then 10. I am going to use the ones that most people seem to use for testing
