Your thoughts on this linkbuilding strategy (multiple blogs with backlinks each)

I'm a bit of a newbie, but I've done a bit of reading and research and I've come up with this strategy for building backlinks:

1. Make 10 blogs on wordpress, drupalgardens, etc.
2. Add 2-3 blog posts on each blog, each with a link to a page on the money site. (Using anchor text relevant to the blog post, as well as the linked page.)
3. Get cheap backlinks for each of the 10 blogs (e.g. go to fiverr and get someone to make you 1000 forum profile links, or 1000 web directory submissions) Total cost: $5x10 = $50

I'd appreciate if you guys can let me know if this method will work or if it's complete bollocks.

This is called tiered link building.

Essentially you are using web entities that you control as your first tier. On this tier you use unique content and ensure that they will pass a manual check.

You can then leverage this first tier by utilising second (and even third) tier links that are weaker but greater in number.

Remember, whilst doing any kind of link building, to ensure that your link profile looks as natural as possible. This generally means that around 90% of your anchor text should be naked URLs, your brand name and actionables (click here).

As with everything, don't take my word for it. I am a random guy on a forum.

I'm curious, would these free blogs be suitable for the first tier? Is it a problem if the blog only has 1-2 posts, or should the blogs have loads of content?

Your strategy is good to start,but you definately can't rely on this only.
I'd suggest you go hunt other platforms aswell,like article directories,press releases,social bookmarks etc. for your first tier.
As for second and third tier,you need platform and huge anchor text diversity aswell,else you'll miss most of the link juice.

You can also create unique content to hubpages and squidoo lenses as a Tier 1 links

Check out scritty, madoctopus here on bhw, mathew woodward another member here has great videos on tierd link building, do a G search for his name, you will find his site.

And just a suggestion from me (another random dude on a forum) - don't link back to your money site in every post on the blog you create. Easy to spot by Google
