Speaking from personal experience, i think its number one too much information overload and paralysis of analysis. There are so many methods shared here so frequently and before you finish learning one, you discover another one that looks even better before you even put a plan of action on the one you just read. So yeah to me that and the fact that we're indoctrinated to believe that what worked last month doesn't work today in Internet Marketing is what holds me back.

Stick to the basics BH or WH..So;
- Niche (don't get attached to a pet niche that's got no money in it)
- Keywords (research them with free tools if you're skint - but definitely research them - get a good targetted URL)
- Site type (ok Wordpress probably, but see if others are better - FREE AGAIN)
- Build site - Site build even for TOTAL NOOB a 40 hour working week MAXIMUM. YOu'll get it down to a site a day maybe more, don't get hung up on the site. "borrow" ideas and graphics.
- SEO for site. Meta tags, page names, image names, alt tags, internal linking. F&ck it get some tools to do most of it for you (if it's WP most are FREE AGAIN)
- Monetize site. Join some programs, maybe buy a tool or two to add a ton of appropriate content full of lovely targetted ads
- Get traffic. A couple of tools, maybe spend a hundred bucks or so as a beginner on some of the great tools that are here to get you links, traffic, ranking etc
Is it making cash? If not go back to top of list and make sure you did it right.
300-500 bucks (including hosting etc) and you are off.
Don't spend more till you have a system that WORKS

When you spend more...
Spend it on doing what works faster and bigger - NOT on changing a winning method. Only a d&ck would do that!

Make a plan like..
I'm gonna have a site in a profitable niche, completed, SEO, monetized and the link building and traffic process underway in the next 72 hours
Decide how you are going to do each step - what tools you will use...and STICK TO IT.
Info overload is a ba&st&rd, and can cripple you. You can't see the wood for the trees.
Notice that NO-ONE tells you their method, not even the Guru's who sell you a method for a thousand bucks. Rest assured they are selling their LAST METHOD not the new and better one.
It might take a few months or even a year, but stick at it, learn as you go. You can DO IT.
$10 a day in 6 months if you begin as a total noob
$50 a day after 12
$100-250 a day after 2 years
$1000 a day after 3-5 years
Realistic goals. Not earth shattering but realistic. BUt I bet 90% quit before they even get to the 1 year mark - and you've learned SO MUCH.
You could just be a breakthrough away from making it.
