is making money your main number one goal in life

Making money must not be a goal. Making money must be the motivation towards achieving / motivation towards working for certain (some) goals.
Example : If you are a coder, then make your goal to be one of the best coders and work towards that everyday. In the process of that, you will become better at coding and as a result of that , you would have a great chance at (earning) making more money.
So, do not focus on making money. Focus on providing value in every way that one can possibly provide, on an ongoing basis. As you earn more, in the process, then the money will be one of your motivations to chase your goal(s).

Well, money seems to be a precursor to achieving your goals.

You can't climb mount Everest for less than $50,000...
You can't raise a happy family if you're broke...

There are goals you can achieve with no money but if you want to live a happy fulfilled life you will need money...
Unfortunately, that's the way our system works.
