I'm on Hostwinds currently and not very happy. I refer all of my clients to them (lifetime commissions gives incentive).
It's shared hosting I refer my clients to and I have a managed VPS I host others on. My sites were down 4 times this week! I have migrated most of my clients sites that were on my VPS to a shared hosting provider elsewhere. No more downtime.
I figured the traffic from all of the combined sites was a problem, so I moved them and kept my personal site on a $43 a month VPS. It's down consistently.
On top of it all, I talk clients into transferring to them, and they completely screw up transfers. I'm pretty sure they erased my site that I transferred.
I had a site recently transferred to them and specifically asked for ONE site to be transferred. They transferred my entire cpanel, and crossed up all of the sites and had them routing to the wrong site. Finally after they figured out that they weren't supposed to transfer every site in my cpanel, they started fresh and got things rolling. Site was up and running fine, cool.
Then I asked for an SSL cert to be installed. Next thing you know the site is completely gone and when asked what happened they message me this:
So I believe they some how deleted the site, then I messaged them the problem only occured after installing the SSL. They probably then went back to the old login detail at the other hosting company and re-transferred the site (or copied rather) because changes I made on the site after the first transfer were now erased. Imagine if I had been transferring indefinitely from the hosting company and deleted my account. That would have been tragic.
