Hello

As title says i’m lost… really lost.

I do not know where I wanna go in life or how I wanna get there.
I feel like i’ve wasted the last 18 years of my life doing nothing.. i’ve had small bursts of excitements from IM back when I used to buy and flip instagram accounts to doing GTA V money glitches on people’s accounts and many many more ventures.

My biggest success was a dropshipping tiktok account where I had over 30,000 clicks to my shopify website.. but not 1 sale. Why because I forgot to create shipping zones. This destroyed me on how I was so close but messed it all up.

The problem is i feel like I have done nothing and I don’t have any time left to make a change. I’ve had an awesome head start in life and have had a weekly wage of $6-800 for the last 3 years which as allowed me to invest in different projects and side hustles online and offline but I have nothing to show for it. I don’t know wether it’s the shiny syndrome or it’s just me being lazy.

The 2 biggest qualities I have are time and disposable money. I get home from work and sit and play league or watch youtube for 5,6,7 hours then sleep and do it all again, I could have everything I ever wanted if I channeled those hours into learning SEO or finishing my python course.

I don’t know what to do and I’ve got a big fat ? inside my head atm so any and all advice will be appreciated

Hey man, you're 18, and you're rocking.

The best I did when I was 18 was launch a dropshipping that made me 300$; I kept grinding and eventually hit big in crypto.
You have a lot of skills you just need to keep grinding.

find something you are passionate about or have an interest in. Then figure out a side hustle for it. Its easier to maintain your momentum if it is something you like in the first place.

Hey bro appreciate the reply! I’ve always been hesitant to do dropshipping since my fk up with the shipping zones. Feels like I’ll never get those sort of leads again
You're 18?
Yes
If you don't do anything, then you're happy with everything. Something has to throw you off balance so that you start to develop. Start exercising first, so you put your thoughts in order
I can relate to this, I haven’t had a difficult life and no major traumatic events (yet).
Still live at home expense free and I know I have it better than most I just don’t know how to utilise this lucky start to its fullest.

Momentum is pretty much what i’m describing, I will go hard for 2-3 weeks on anything, gym, IM, self improvement then for the next month i won’t touch it.

Find a girlfriend. Enjoy your time. You have a salary, right? Dedicate your free time to your beloved. Go to gym, eat healthy, have sex. That's all you need now.

Awful advice.

Basically saying "Just be normal and do what the masses do".

Then in 10 years he's living in a regular apartment with 3 babies and a moaning girlfriend. His dreams of success just a distant, forgotten memory.

Don't do ANY of that shit.

In fact, don't even focus on making money right now.

Focus on LEARNING. If you spend the next 10 years building your skillset up you'll be set for life.

That doesn't mean don't make money. Keep making money. Aim for a couple grand a week at least, but your focus should be on acquiring skills.

Forget Python unless you are a hyper geek. That isn't going to make you money unless you're a top 1% dev and willing to devote your life to it. (Even the top 1% don't make that much. Almost no geeky dev guys will make a profitable SaaS. They don't have the other required skills)

Forget SEO, Python and all the BS skills.

SEO is not a transferrable skill. It requires immense investment and it's only getting worse. Someone who was an SEO god in 2012 may as well be a granny on the street when it comes to SEO in 2022. The same will apply in 2032. It's a useless skill unless you can leverage it now with the above.

If you had skills, right now, you could go and create a $50k/mo SMMA business by just picking up the phone, selling and being able to get your clients leads/clients through ads.

With the above skills you can do almost anything to make money. Almost no one can fucking sell, copywrite or market. I can sell, and I can write. I rarely come across others who can. Most people are terrible at sales. Terrible.

Alex Becker can sell, and he can market. He just sold Hyros for $110m.

Alex Hormozi can sell, and he can market.(Among other things) - He clears $100m/year.

You could go become a plumber. If you can sell, copywrite and market, you're going to make a shit-ton of money, and end up having to hire other plumbers because of all the work you have.

SEO won't get you there ;-)

Being able to create a value proposition around your business, then transfer that value proposition on paper(copywriting), on the phone or in person(sales) and then spread the word of that value proposition(advertising/marketing) is how you make money. Period.

Please, forget Python and SEO. You'll thank me in 10 years when you're making $200k/mo and scaling so fast you can barley handle it.

Don't think I've heard worst advice then "don't learn to code", it's literally the best skill one can have.
But also, how do you learn sales? Like actually I've never tought of that.

just you being lazy honestly lol.have been there.
you lack motivation now, cause your life is stable. even if you do nothing.
want some motivation, either find some community or club that is full of peole richer than your and live better. or force yourself to that situation
(put some of your money in locked saving you cannot take)

believe me when i say it won't last forever..accident happen even if you do nothing that can easily eat up all your saving and make you lose your earning source
better you add more source now, rather than try to find it after you have nothing, and your bills is bigger from your earning

I could have everything I ever wanted if I channeled those hours into learning SEO or finishing my python course.

Do it then.

You seem VERY against the idea of people learning SEO for someone who sells PBN links lol

Yep, but I didn't tell him to go away and try to make a fortune. Just to go and focus on skills that will serve him in 10 years. The danger with going away and getting a gf, spending your $800/week on her is you end up, like I said, in 10 years with 3 crying babies ;-)

Don't think I've heard worst advice then "don't learn to code", it's literally the best skill one can have.
But also, how do you learn sales? Like actually I've never tought of that.

Why? What makes it such a good skill?

I was writing code in the late 90's btw.

I'm a top 1% dev. I can write pretty much anything I want. 10's of thousands of lines of code. I can write linux drivers in C. I can write massively parallel scalable micro service based architectures. I can create database setups with TB's of data that's lightning fast. All that shit and more.

But you know how much of a part it's played in me reaching 7 figures?

Very very very little.

The top 2 things that got me there is 1) Sales and 2) Copywriting.

I just happened to have started out as a tech geek in the 90's, so I have all those skills.

I know countless great devs and none of them are good at business.

And in my day devs were rare. Now, everyone wants to be a Python dev.

Like really, what are you going to do with Python?

Let's say you're shit hot, and you can build an amazing SaaS company. How do you get customers? It's not easy if you have no sales/marketing skills, and by skills, I mean YEARS of refining your craft. This stuff takes a long time to learn. It's not something you can read a couple articles on. Heck, there's just SO much most people have no idea about. People don't even know what they don't know.

So what do you do? Get a job? Make $94k/year as a python dev? (https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Google/salaries/Python-Developer) In the US. Less if you're in Europe.

https://uk.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=b12f9260170750bd&tk=1gkjhg9sskji1800&from=serp&vjs=3 - £65k to £75k for a backend API Python dev.

Quant - https://uk.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=d86202f460543b10&tk=1gkjhg9sskji1800&from=serp&vjs=3 - £125k - And that's if you're at the top of your game. That's a nice take-home pay of £6400/mo. The kid's making $800/week dicking around on the web at 18. That's £2850/month. so he's making a bit under half what a top python quant makes. Do you know how hard it would be to make it up to the level where you can get that job? He'd need 10 years solid python, finance and math experience.

So why exactly is python one of the best skills you can have?

Even Google only pays their python devs about $150k-$160k/year, and you have to be top 0.05% to 0.01% to get into google. Certainly 0.01% to thrive.

What a giant waste of time, when you can just learn how to sell.

And how do you learn how to sell?

Go on youtube and type "how to sell". Find a few top sales trainers and study their stuff, then pick up the phone and start dialing. Record yourself. Listen and compare to the top sales guys. Pickup the phone again and repeat.

You're not going to do 10,000 calls and still suck at sales.

Most people won't even do 10 calls.

You seem VERY against the idea of people learning SEO for someone who sells PBN links lol

By all means go and learn it. Be my guest.

Hey m8,
Soo first of all: start doing fitness / weightlifting. This is a good use of time, you improve your looks, exhaust yourself and feel good. Then read the book: "atomic habits". If you don't like reading, listen to its audiobook.
Main thing out of the book that will help you: create habits that are unavoidable. For your example with wasting time on youtube:
delete youtube from your phone or block access to it via time-managment apps (available on android and apple). ALso what helped me: at home is your comfortable area. There you sleep, eat, watch tv. After work, go to the library or a public school and work there further on your private projects. This will help you focus on work. Then when you are done, go home and there you can chill, eat, sleep and so on.

You are still young, nothing lost. build good habits, this should be your main focus. this will keep you on track a life long.

Next point: be a open person. That means, talk to people of all type. If you are open, new opportunities will come to you that you can't even imagine right now. Trust me. The one person has maybe a idea for a cool brand or product and needs help with a shop and there you can help. Talk to business people in you closer environment. What are there struggles in the online world? how can you solve them?

Next point: don't be a bitch (no front intended), lives hard, fuck compassion, everybody has his struggles and trust me, way worse struggles then you. Look some motivation videos, I can suggest you this ones "MindSmash" (
)

kind regards

You seem VERY against the idea of people learning SEO for someone who sells PBN links lol

He's not very against people learning SEO. He's stating a fact, 90% of people who start something will fail before finishing what they set out to start in the first place. In a playing field as chaotic, and ever-spanding as SEO (Literally a digital war against search engines in most cases) who even if you win, you're still at the mercy of. Someone who is depressed, lacks focus, lacks motivation, all of the things OP mentioned.

Doesn't stand a chance / so instead, he should first start with something within his means / realistic scope of execution.

Yep, but I didn't tell him to go away and try to make a fortune. Just to go and focus on skills that will serve him in 10 years. The danger with going away and getting a gf, spending your $800/week on her is you end up, like I said, in 10 years with 3 crying babies ;-)

I wasn't particularly speaking about python but programming in general, I think it's a good skill to have a nice life as a backup plan :)

Personally I know how to code but you inspired me on learning how to sell.

@splishsplash okay, you are smart and I won't argue with you here. Just a note. If one is a smart ass dev with zero sales skills he can very easy team up with a team and split the profit. If you want go fast go alone. If you want go far team up. While you are smart and lucky doesn't mean every one is. Some people are born unable to sell. That is.

If you enjoy it, then do some programming, but only for fun.

I like it. I still do it, but I have a HUGE advantage with countless decades behind me. If I was starting fresh today, I wouldn't bother learning it.

I just don't attribute it to my success, and it's not something to focus on for money. Do it for pure enjoyment.

Also.. AI is going to takeover most dev work. Not now, or in 2 years, but in 10 years AI will be able to do most dev work. Maybe even 5-6 at the rate things are going. In 10 to 12 years we'll like have an AGI that will not only write code, but design from its own will.

Being able to sell will never get old.

If you're stuck on an island with only a few 100 people then being able to sell will put you in a position to accumulate more resources and be successful.

Selling is a skill that you develop. A few people are good naturally, but believe me, it takes time to refine. There are specific things you do to sell that are all learnable. It's not just being a fancy talker.

It's very hard to be a dev and find a partner who's good at business/sales/marketing.

If you're a business/marketing/sales guy, you probably won't even need to partner with a dev. You'll just hire a good one for $10k/mo, or a top one for $15k-$20k/mo, maybe give them 2-5% of the company. And this is something you only learn with experience.. You don't just give away 5% of your company. You set achievement milestones for the dev where he gets 1% per year over the first 5 years. Or 0.5% per year over 10 years, or he gets 5% after 5 years. You hold all the cards if you're the guy that can make the money.
