Yes, exactly. This is why it is so important to achieve a ranking within the top 5 results. After the fifth result, so many people drop off. Keep your website's portfolio clean and rank high!

Seriously. They should change the way google webmaster tools reports your rank. 1-5 and then "~Worthless" after that.

That is not always the case man, I am not sure where you are coming from. Most of the time, content after 5 is the most relevant. The first positions are usually ranked with SEO, so just people in it for money.

One real example is: Weight loss.

That is, if you search for KWs regarding weight loss, you will see thousands and tens of thousands of affiliate links on the first 2 pages.

But if you really want to know deeper how your body works, you are going to search on deeper sites with real information and not some random quick method to lose weight.
