When your blog gets indexed.
You can do social share. You can post it on article share, pdf share. Wherever.
You can even use the same content with little or no spin because the blog already got indexed.
This is not going to hurt your SEO.
Is this the right assumption?

You're gonna get penalised by google if you have a crappy website

I would not post the exact same article to different websites. You should create different articles on social profiles than the ones on your money website. Google loves unique and relevant niche content and always tends to penalise duplicate content more often than not.

Once it indexed already, you can use this same content. This is against the google guidelines. If you use this same content in some other site, It considers as spammy and gets penality.

To check if your website is penalized, login into webmasters tools. There you will identify penalty and it is also free of cost.

For what it's worth, I have personally reposted indexed content to Medium (with link AND canonical tag) and still had those articles overtake mine.
This has led me to not repost my articles on other websites, although sometimes I may use a little excerpt.
But, that's just one experience.
