So, I was wondering.

We rebranded 3 years ago. Our domain name changed as well, it now 301 redirects to our new domain name.
But what if I now use thousands of DA metrics manipulating techniques like google redirect urls to the old brand domain name?

Would the metrics of the new brand be affected positively or negatively? Since we have a buffer.
Semrush, Majestic and our Google Console all recognized the 301 redirect as a genuine link, years ago.

But it's just sitting there... getting old.

so using redirect to manipulate metrics is a Black hat technique which helps you in short term but in long term may gain penalties and negative user experience and credibility of your new brand.

I would say neither. Google usually ignores these bogus links, they have no power over your rankings, they just inflate the DA score which is a metric invented by MOZ and has no bearings on google's SERPs.

This being said, if google ever finds out that it's you who did those backlinks with the intention to gain boost in rankings they will definitely penalize your site. Of course, they may never find out since they're not manually checking all of the billions of domains and URLs on the internet, but - hypothetically speaking - if they do find out you're going to get penalized. But there's nothing to worry about otherwise...

so? Let it sit :)
